S&T to Prop?

Is it a viable path to go from being an S&T analyst to prop trading at a top MM? Also, if so, would the process be revolved around your track record (if you have one) at the bank you were at or no, since it’s a different trading style? If so, what are the best products to trade in order to make this transition? I would assume equity derivatives or something vol, preferably flow? Is this correct?

Have seen mostly 2 cases:

1. juniors(<2 yrs of experieence) -> compromise their work experience and start as new grad at top prop shops. Many props such as DRW, CItsec, JSC, optiver, imc, accepts new grads who have less than 2 yrs experience.

2. seniors(at least senior vp level who has very solid track record, but mostly D's/MD's) -> become head of specific desk.

there are some other cases I've seen, having 3 yrs as systematic trader at d1 desk -> gd1 junior trader at top prop, and one more. but I think that's a rare case.
