Thoughts on P/A Trading

Hi Guys,

I'm currently a college student starting to trade. I'd love to make a big profit (goes without saying), but what I really want is good experience to talk about in interviews. Now onto the trading...

From what I have seen and read, most of the stay-at-home traders seem to focus on technicals almost exclusively. Again, from what I've read on forums and heard from these day traders, technical analysis does not yield high profits. Not sure if its the model or the people doing the trading.

Most of my learning (various clubs, friends on the street) supports fundamental analysis. I would like to focus on fundamental analysis and macro theses for trades, incorporating some technical factors. I'll trade equity derivatives, FX, FX derivatives, maybe futures.

My question for you experienced AND profitable traders is: Do you focus on the technicals and chart patterns, or do you make decisions based on macro views?
