I could be wrong but that's my synthesis based of what my friends told me.
Wow, so you're saying that top bucket all in comp is about the same as IB base?? I thought S&T was a lot closer to IB than that?

I originally wanted IB, and have an S&T internship. I'm trying to determine how hard I want to network internally for the move and am starting to think I'd trade the exit ops for the hours if the comp was at least close. Exit ops and a huge comp difference is a whole different story.
Well after a networking lunch with others from the bank I was told that all AO1's in the front office of the investment bank are paid the same base rwgard less of function. Not sure about the signing number, but appearently base is 125k across the board. Bonuses vary by group so with record M&A last year the bankers obviously faired better, but based on your S&T group you may have done pretty good as well.
A0 and A3 is gonna vary, equity cash and equity derivatives are also gonna be different (especially at more senior years)
Bump, curious about this as well. I've heard A3 is closer to 200k base.

These numbers are wrong so you can ignore them. Those numbers are close to the highest numbers I've ever heard verified at a bank in the last decade and aren't even close to what you should expect. Analyst year 2: ~150k, associate year 1: ~225k, associate year 2: ~275k are much more reasonable.
What would a final year Associate and VP1/2/3 get for total comp?
What bank pays 27 year olds almost a million dollars?
These numbers seem rather high, don't they?
BB A1: 140k base. Bonus is hugely variable by product/performance. i.e it could be anywhere from $40-200k (outliers on both ends of that range). Bulk will get 60-120k.
Anyone calling my numbers wrong is probably either still a student or not a top producer at a BB. I can't say more without revealing too much, so I'd just take my numbers for what is definitely possible if you're doing very well in markets business.
It's possible, depends on how much risk you take, how you comp against your class and your seniors and how much management like you.
The analyst number is completely implausible, the associate numbers MIGHT be possible but it would literally have to be the top paid associate in the bank (aka unlikely for equities generally speaking)
As said, definitely possible and I actually know a few people on comparable numbers.
So much horseshit around here. I am an Asso1 at a top US BB in eq derivs and know numbers of almost everyone in my class. I am in London, with GBP being crap at the moment NY office probably has it a bit better but not by miles. 175k-215k USD allin is a good ballpark for asso 1.
These are realistic and achievable numbers if you are good to average at your work.
175k USD = 124k GBP 215k USD = 152k GBP
Associate 1 being what, 3 years of experience? Do you run your own book? How much did you make for the bank? Your numbers are definitely not wrong, but think they are for average people not top producers. Anyways....
Yes ~3years. I am not talking outliers here, i am giving realistic achievable numbers as stated. Everyone like to think he is a top producer, but 2-3y into the job, you are usually still not given enough responsibility to make anything stellar happen anyway.
Very much possible to have a decent sized book on a non-exotic desk with three years experience. All depends on the opportunity at the time.
Yes it is possible, does it happen often.... No.... Most ED/senior VPs are stuck forever at their jobs and are not going anywhere anytime soon. They are still dreaming about pre-08 lifestyle This means the analyst/Associate is not going to be "thrown in the swimming pool". He will only get a big book(the type of book that can push you much above the average, not 10k more) if the senior dude leaves/gets sacked, otherwise he will be the "cover" for a while or be given some peripheral book. You have to make your own luck and push really hard to get to "high potential" roles/responsibilities, no one will give anything unless they are forced to for 2 reasons : -Some VPs are effectively just overpaid associates and don't bring much more to the table, so they are holding to their seat/putting roadblocks due to insecurity. -Even if they like you, senior people need to have a justification for putting such a young dude in charge of a big book in case you screw up. And the easiest justification is "he was the only one available". "He seemed to be good" is a non-starter when you have 3 VPs seating on the bench.
Structures are a a lot flatter than your realize in general... at top performing levels your title does not matter, just the revenue you pull in and your status with co-workers and clients... Iv'e known personally analysts make 500k and associates almost $1mm... believe it or not, it does not really matter to me

BUT LOL at the analysts.
Analysts barely contribute to PNL in 99% of cases And when they do, they certainly don't get enough to warrant 500k comp
If you're a college student please don't come in thinking you even have a shot of making 500k your first two years
fwiw with the way the industry is now, 500k would be a really really good comp for a second year associate
