VC out of undergrad --> PE analyst/internship possible?

I finished my 3 year undergraduate in business, majoring in finance, 6 months ago. I've been working as an intern at an early stage VC firm (series A) ever since.

I've worked on 3 investments so far, supporting my analyst and investment manager with the IM. I take care of Market analysis, competition analysis and a few smaller sections. I also get to do some niche research on topics. I take care of incoming deal flow, organize deals and also scout of interesting deals and write a short thesis on them to have it reviewed by the manager. I also manage portfolio monitoring. I've built a dynamic monitoring framework with my manager and I load it up every month and analysis it. As for core modelling work, I haven't yet gotten my fingers in it at work, I will on the next investment. I have been working on my modelling skills away from work, doing analysis on public equities.

While I really like the work, I want to move and invest in PE/growth equity stage, from where the firm could support me with an MBA.
A long term rough goal of mine would be to set up a PE fund of my own.

I come from a non-target, writing CFA level 1 in a few months. (India)How may I make a move into PE?

Thank you

Hey, so did you find any solution? Did you make the move? old post but still.. I'm curious as i too might have an option to intern at a small early stage focused VC but worried about the exit opps as it will be my very first internship and i dont want to restrict myself to such restrictive career this early.

I'd say go do a short stint at a well-known IB and then move to VC if you wish.

I couldn't get into good IB but I started off at a small time VC but now I'm trying to scale up. It's a real grind, you'll have a lot of nay sayers and fuck faces who will undermine you but have a plan and keep going. Figure out what works and what doesn't and keep the grind.

Hi, if possible can you share your process in detail eg was it also a early stage small vc, how lond did you stay, how did you leverage that vc stint for ib offer and then the ib for pe and this is in India so, was MBA necessary?

Sorry if too many questions, i am trying to find as much info about this as possible

Sure. I did 1 year at the VC, performed well (worked on investments etc.), and the experience was good enough for an IB to take a closer look at my resume and give me an offer. Combination of buyside work + sellside work helped me pitch to PEs that I could plausibly do well in an internship. No MBA needed this was back in undergrad. YMMV, but in my experience being able to tell a good story matters a lot when pulling off moves like this.
