2018 Republicans vs Democrats POLL

After reading about the taxes on bonus thread, I am now curious about the political breakdown of users on WSO, and I'm sure you are too, so I'm making a quick, anonymous and simple poll. Please vote and fill out as best as you can regardless of your opinion of the current administration.

Silver Banana on this post if:
-You're a straight up Republican
-You fall more on Conservative spectrum
-You're one of those "I'm fiscally conservative, but now since its 2018, I've decided to become socially liberal so people don't hate me" types of people.

Monkey Sh-t on this post if:
-You're a Liberal and you're proud
-You fall more on the Liberal spectrum
-You want higher taxes for yourself and for your fellow bankers for the rest of your lives

Not really sure where I stand because I'm a pretty average eat, sleep, DCF, drink type of banker that hates paying taxes but I also love ramming it in a gay dude's ass every now and again. Ain't nothing like it. Thing is, I kinda hate gay people, or rather the "LGBTQ+" persona that the mainstream media has created. I just like ramming it up other dude's asses, fuck all that rainbow shit.

My point is, I'm drunk.

Honestly, I'm the most normal dude ever. I just love man-ass. I'm a booty goon bro. I chase ass with the best of them and I can outdrink 10/10 bankers I work with. I get the most vag too. I don't even like vag but I get more of it than you. What I'm really all about is man ass, I can't get enough of that shit. I came out senior year of high school after I piped out the homecoming queen. Not because I couldn't stand living a lie, but strictly because I wanted to make that statement. Yeah, I can pipe out your dream girl, and I'm still gonna kick her to the curb the next day in favor of some male cheeks. Issss Cheek Bussin' season boiiiiii.

It seems like WSO leans conservative on fiscal and economic issues and socially more liberal (e.g. pro choice, pro gay marriage, not that religious).

I do wonder where WSO stands on immigration, as that issue straddles national security, economics, cultural, and social.

There used to be a name for this. It was "Rockefeller Republican." After Gov. Nelson Rockefeller. Unfortunately they appear to be an extinct species these days, as even Lloyd and Jamie are going "WTF" at the R's.

I personally Identify as a Rockefeller Republican, but I have a difficult time voting for a populist, nationalist candidate like Trump. I think he has more in common with Hugo Chavez than Dwight D. Eisenhower.

I break things internally before we roll them out so people don't break them externally, and find data problems. I also know the story behind every one of our ETF's performance quirks back to inception. Our PMs come to me when they need help.

Rockefeller Republicans were definitely not fiscally conservative; they were pretty liberal in nearly all policy areas. Rockefeller is closer to Obama and Hillary than he is to Reagan.

As your last sentence comparing Trump to Chavez, you win the award for the hyperbole of the day.

I saw a ton of political posts lately so wanted to contribute my own two cents -- it seems like people are downvoting great ideas just because they disagree with the party, I would accept any Republican idea if it was a good one and reject any Democrat idea if it sucked.

Bet this post is gonna get downvoted too by right-wing partisans who accuse Obama of being partisan while they're the ones who vote party line 100% of the time

1) You have every right to post political things here.

2) Who is calling him a socialist muslim? I think he strongly wants to move us more socialistic and is feeding off (or was feeding off) populace sentiment that is anti capitalistic. This always happens when people are out of work so it doesn't really bother me.

3) I could careless if he is a Muslim. I will never understand why religion plays such a huge part of the presidential election. We don't elect Catholics either (JFK the exception).

4) It is useless security until something happens. I am sorry, but I agree with security checks at the airport. You get pat down or walk through a scanner. Big deal. Planes are a continual target for wacko's regardless of their motivation. This country also suffered a huge terrorist strike involving planes so pardon our sensitivity.

5) Yes, we spend a lot on defense. I wish we did not have to. Please write every nation in the world that has been slashing their military budget while still wanting peace and security.

The USA in recent history has kicked Saddam out of Kuwait, stopped the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo (when the Europeans couldn't do it themselves), kicked the human rights violators (aka Taliban) out of power and eliminated a genocidal dictator and his cruel sons. We keep North Korea from making the South a shit hole like the north and we seem to be the only ones raising a stink about Iran and their nuclear program.

Regan saw such a huge spending increase because of the USSR. I am not going to make excuses for Bush. Republicans moved away from their ideals and hopefully that will be corrected now.

Gay Unions are slowly being permitted and besides, it is a states right issue. It is not as if the USA is the only country slow in adopting this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_union
6) Where is the Republican party trying to pass legislation saying you can only be Christian? Completely worthless comment on your part.

7) Smoking pot is being decriminalized. Prop 19 failed because THE PEOPLE voted it down. Sounds like Democracy in action.

I am very happy that after coming from a Communist country you now are enjoying your right to free speech.

I find it funny how you think defense spending is a waste now that the USA has taken down the largest communist nation. So generous of you.

We are using 2 billion dollar B-2 bombers designed for deep-penetration nuclear strikes into Soviet airspace to bomb backwards goat-herders. Defense spending (per capita) is higher now than any time after the Vietnam conflict.

Terrorists and rogue states are dangerous, but they do not necessitate more defense spending than the Soviet Union did in the 70s to collapse. It's time for a smarter, leaner and cheaper defense department.

While I mostly agree with your statement, I think it's a bit presumptuous to assume that a "smarter, leaner and cheaper defense department" is possible. I realize, in theory, that we may not need expensive stealth bomber programs like we've developed in the pass, but our defense needs are as great as ever, obviously in a different manner (read: smarter & leaner). The problem is the "cheaper" proposal might not be readily possible. Our defense needs are extensive and the current threats require very personnel intensive programs which bear significant costs. This isn't a tank and fighter jet situation anymore, it's an armored personnel carriers and individual soldiers, drones equipped with surveillance capabilities and armaments situation and all of these things require more extensive training and developmental costs than their predecessors.

It reminds me of the idiom often referenced when building a car: "Fast, reliable, cheap...choose two". It's nice to think you can have all three but it isn't likely you can and it seems analogous to our defense situation.

Regards

Saying that the Republicans are trying to ban all other religions besides Christianity is one of the dumbest things I've ever read or heard ever. Just for a comment that stupid you should be banned--from this website and from speaking in general. As they said in Billy Madison: "We are all dumber for having listened to you."

"Useless" security???

It amazes me how clueless some people are. There are people in this world that would like to do nothing more than blow up our entire country. The best possible security measure is the one the public never hears about because there is no news to report. There have been ZERO successful terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11 (thank God). Do you think that's bc of lack of effort by the terrorists? Do you think the public hears about every single terrorist plot that is foiled? Do you even read the news? The fact that this last attack came so close should only go to show that we need MORE security. These measures only seem pointless bc terrorists are having to go through complicated means of attacking us now, instead of just carrying guns/bombs on a plane.

You, sir, are an idiot. If you were in charge, I cannot imagine how many Americans would be dead.

We should also note that national defense is one of the few legitimate roles of government under our constitutional system. Last I checked, a massive intervention in health insurance markets, medicare, and social security are not. Since all these things are on the verge of insolvency, maybe it's a good time to return to doing just the things government is actually sanctioned to do. Let the people who paid into these programs get their benefits, and then dismantle the damn things.

I know it's a radical idea, but maybe it's time for people to take responsibility for saving for their own retirement and their own healthcare in old age. Everyone wants subsidized this, subsidized that. This entitlement mentality needs to go. It's literally crippling our economy.

It's only radical because of how far our politicians have moved away from the Constitution. Excellent post by the way.

We are obviously not spending enough on our National security as millions of illegal immigrants like you are rushing our boarders freely everyday.

Our country or government has been going in the wrong direction, this is true, but let us hope that the recent election is a sign that America has awakened and that Republicans have returned to their values.

no one here gives a true fuck about small government. the only thing they are worried about is their taxes, so they vote republican. Thank you for enlightening me about allocating resources and let us not over-analyze my snide remark. I obviously am not a proponent of additional spending. The problem is a combination of mis-allocating resources and our gov neglecting to enforce laws that were put in place for politically charged reasons. Seigniorage,

First, hat tip for the Rupert Pupkin reference. You're either a true De Niro fan, or you're my age (or both). I doubt too many of our fellow monkey's are going to get it.

You bring up an interesting point, and one that I think about a lot. I think people do tend to vote their expectations rather than their reality, no matter how statistically unrealistic those expectations may be.

Here's where it comes down to how you were raised and what your personal belief system is. You either believe that everything is on the level, that anyone can achieve anything they set out to with enough hard work, and that to punish people for success is wrong. Or, you believe that the game is rigged, that you can really only go so far in life before you'll hit the barriers constructed by the wealthy to keep you out, and therefore government is the great equalizer and should rob from the rich to give to the poor. I suppose there's a third option as well, and it's been my guiding principle through the years, though I can't recommend it for everyone. Namely, that the second option is reality, that the game is rigged and the rich want nothing more than to take from the poor, but that I personally am smart and ruthless enough to cheat my way to the top, and therefore have no interest in paying taxes.

What I think you have to accept is that government is on the side of the wealthy (even though, like Obama, they often appear to be on the side of the poor). If voters don't do everything they can to restrict taxation, we'll be facing a redistributionist nightmare - though not the nightmare the Tea Party rails about. If the government is left to tax unchecked, every penny of our country's wealth will be in the hands of the richest 1% within a generation.
