Anyone heard of China Media Group - Golden Dragon?
Hey everyone! I hope nobody minds my first post!
I was looking on my school's career listing and a position as "Analyst Internship" came up under the China Media Group's Golden Dragon Internship Placement Division. I did a search but nothing came up on it so I was wondering if anyone else had ever heard of the company (I ran it on google and it seemed pretty legitimate) and if so, what the internship there entails?
The site's here: http://cmg.hk
Thanks everyone!
Anyone have any ideas?

They emailed me back with that link. Looks pretty legit.
I ate lunch at The Golden Dragon...not too bad but their egg rolls were kinda small
+1
It's one of those pay to go do work internship programs. I saw it at my school last year. You pay a few 1000 and go work for free for these companies in China.
I am interested in this program too. Could someone share any ideas about this? Do you think this pay-to-work program would be useful for future placements?
Thanks!
They have that at my school (maybe we go to the same one??) on the career center site too. I applied before I got another offer. As long as you get paid it can't hurt for a back up plan. There are some programs where you have to pay to do the internship or some that are unpaid, and these are NOT worth it unless they are super credible companies.... but most good companies would pay you a good salary anyways.
this sounds like bullshit to me
it would be called golden dragon... sounds like a bullshit to me too
Sounds like a derivery place to me.
If I didn't get offer at any other places, would this obscure derivery prace IB be better than nothing? Or would nothing be better than this? lol
Well something is always better than nothing... :-/
Is there any chance that these programs might be a scam and just give you an internship that's not even legit and make you live in a crappy apartment for the month? Or, even worse, take you away for international human trafficking and sell you away into a life of sex and drugs?!?!!?
I think I just watch too many movies but I always have these skepticisms towards overseas programs not sponsored by my school. Otherwise, internship + travel sounds like a great deal!
bump - interested in hearing more about this. anyone have any direct experience through this program?
Did anyone ever try this internship? I'm reading through this topic and noticed it never came to a conclusive answer.
I'm also still wondering if anyone has taken this internship. If not, I'll be your test subject for CMG. Going in mid dec. I fear for the scenario that demoz describes.
Similarly, it was posted on my school's (UC Davis) career center website. I assumed it was verified or it wouldn't be up there. Haven't heard of anything bad, but haven't heard of anything good either. No one knows anything about it.
The internship program is basically a staffing agency. They give you a couple of companies to choose from that matches your profile. You pay $1500/month upfront that sets you up with housing, phone, classes/training, and ongoing support.
Can someone check on this address (have a friend in Beijing physically go to the office to confirm): Suite 1508, Tower 1, Plazza Royale, No.23, Xidawang Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing (English) Beijing, Chaoyang Qu, xidawanglu 23hao, zhu jiang di jing, 1 hao lou, 1508 shi (pinyin)
Best of luck Testsubject - it was also posted in my school's career page too. A couple of my buddies decided to apply and was scheduled for an interview through Skype right away - after hearing from a friend that there are a lot of scams in Beijing and they didn't want to fork out $1500/month, they bailed so we never really found out whether it's legit or not.
Have you paid your deposit yet and are scheduled to go?
I have a friend who went through a similar program here in the U.K. He's just finishing up his internship for a small company in China and he said it was an incredible experience!
So one of my buddies was able to check out their office in Beijing. Seems legit. I also asked for a couple contacts to ask about their experience, etc. Each has a significant online presence that would be hard to fake.
I've already paid so can't back out now. Got my passport and VISA ready. I'll make another post when I arrive in mid-Dec.
You need to be suspicious about this internship. The largest media group in China are CCTV, SMG(Shanghai Media Group), and so on... As a Chinese college student, I have never heard about "CMG", not to say "Golden Dragon"... And the address you listed is just a common apartment in the CBD area. I guess it would be a scam, since it was also posted on UC Davis' website, but... this internship might be a crappy one!!!
So I recommend you not apply for it !
cmgtestsubject, how were your experiences? We never heard back from you, hoping it went well??? Please share all you can.
joeybruin,
I've been in Beijing for about 2 months now, staying for about another month. I haven't been kidnapped and sold off to some human trafficking business yet, haha. So I'm glad it wasn't a scam, but I didn't exactly get everything I was promised either. I was supposed to come in as a investment banking analyst at CMG Securities. Unfortunately, everyone at that office was away on business trips so I was placed into another office with two companies: Corporation China and UK Properties, and I've been stuck doing random shit for about 2 months. I would have quit a long time ago, but the people there have been really nice and fun to work with. I've talked to the CEO of CMG to get transferred to another company, which didn't go anywhere. I later contacted another person from CMG, the main guy who arranged for my internship, but that didn't go anywhere either. I later got in contact with a boutique investment bank through thebeijinger, where I'll be staying at for the remainder of my stay in Beijing. Besides the whole placement issue, they have given me housing, phone, and tutor as promised. Support was mediocre and they are quite cheap. It's been a very interesting experience so far.. quite a priceless one really, but I'm still a bit unhappy about how expensive it actually was.
What I'm getting out of it: travel (big one here, first time on a plane..), international work experience (and work experience in general), IB exposure, learning mandarin (spoke 0 mandarin at arrival), visiting where my parents are from (I'm Chinese-American), and a extra one - visiting Korea before I head back to the states. (this last one has to do with some visa issues that CMG wouldn't help with)
Sounds interesting nonetheless, I think I may consider the summer internship in that case. Thanks a bunch for all of your help again! Much appreciated.
