Are these schools considered Mid-target in NY (Baruch, Pace,Fordham,Stjohns,Queens College)

Hello,

I'm assuming Targets are basically Ivy's or top programs. What about Mid-Target or Semi-Target? Is there such a term? From the list, are any of these colleges considered semi-target for FO?

Baruch,Pace,St Johns, Fordham, Queens college

Baruch and Fordham I'd say are semi-target. Baruch has some OCR. Fordham doesn't have OCR for FO positions, but it does have a lot of alumni on the street, particularly in s/t. Its possible to break in from either school, but it won't be as easy as NYU or something (but being in NY for any of these schools is great since you can potentially network with anyone at any BB)

No idea about the other schools

Fordham ftw.

academically its not stupendous, but the networking opportunities are endless. it gets loads of respect on the street, judging from the praise i've gotten in meeting people, and seems like its really respected in ny but virtually unknown elsewhere

well yah... if you want alumni to network with or ocr.

social life is better at fordham... its got a campus with residents... unless you are commuting, in which case safe yourself the hassle of shipping up to the bronx and just commute to baruch

I'd say St Johns and Pace are decent schools, but it'll be more difficult than the other two. I think St Johns has a teachers college and a pharmacy school so those are options there.

If you are looking to go into accounting, all of those schools (not sure about Queen's College though) are decent.

Baruch would be the best out of the schools listed. Its a CUNY-tuition is cheap and they have an office of career services which does an okay job with Frontt Office Recruitment.

However, its extremely difficult to land a FO role out of these schools so your best bet is to transfer to a better school if you can..

In NYC, Columbia followed by Stern Undergrad would be better for obvious reasons...I would go to Baruch then transfer..

I have a friend at Baruch that hates it. That being said, I think internships are more important than the school. Network hard and intern aggressively. If you go to Baruch set your schedule up so you can intern during the week ala NYU. Just keep stacking the internships and networking and you will be fine.

^^^^ True, its not a school where you'll have an enjoyable experience, therefore, try to transfer to a top school. I would stay away from Fordham because your paying Columbia or Stern tuition for basically Baruch quality...

Fordham is a little more generous with financial aid, especially for top students. Of course, if you are a top student, you probably got into NYU anyway. Either way, it can be less expensive than the other two

fordham financial aid is far from generous if you slept through high school and just nailed the SATs. im literally in there twice a week begging for money. they also give no consideration to investing in Toastastics.

I go to Baruch and agree that it defineetely helps that you are in the city. That being said the professors are great and many of them where MD's at hedge funds. To get a BB FO internship as a freshman will far harder than your Ivy peers although after the first two or so it gets easier. Although the education is great within Zicklin(business school) however the professors for the "core" liberal arts subjects are borderline brain dead. Another problem is that 99.7% of the students here are at most of average intelligence although I personally know of a couple who have manged to outperform and a couple who are doing GS IB etc. this summer. If you go I would suggest you contact Mrs. May at the career center and if she sees you are motivated and intelligent she can seriously help you out. Also check out the wall street club that meets friday nights. To summarize it doesn't completely suck but you would definitely have a better chance coming from NYU etc. If you have any other quistions PM me.
