I know a quite a few people from Baruch (studied in the city): an overwhelming majority of the econ majors in "banking" end up in ops, with maybe ~5 getting the BB IB internships/year. I wouldn't be surprised if the OCR you heard about is for MO/BO positions. Baruch is more heavily recruited by the Big 4.

Honestly, Baruch will be a very uphill climb for even MM IB (for what it's worth, I think SocGen also recruits from there). Maybe try killing it, and then transferring to a target.

Don't go there but have a close friend that does.

He interned at a BB, and when I went to visit him he introduced me to like 2 other students that were seniors who also did IB at BBs. I thought it was weird to see honestly because I also considered Baruch a few years ago but turned it down because I expected recruiting to be awful. After speaking to him about it l, he said that the last few years has seen more Baruch kids get into BB IBD. He counted off all the ones he knew and he gave me like 8 names. Obviously it's not a lot relative to the amount of kids in the school, but it's a lot more than a decade ago. The thing is that these kids all seemed to get these jobs because of pure hustle. They were great technically, had a lot of internship experience and got interviews and offers through networking a ton.

Tl;dr: You can definitely do BB IBD out of Baruch, but only if you hustle like a motherfucker to network, intern (during the school year and summer!!) and get a 3.7+. It has been done before, but you have to be honest with yourself about whether or not you have the energy and work ethic to work that hard.

"I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse."

Tough but possible. See a few Baruch people scattered here and there across some of the lower-tier BBs and better MM banks. Obviously way less than the Ivies, NYUs, UCBs of the world but doesn't sound like those are your options. Get a killer GPA, self-study technicals, take advantage of internship/networking opportunities that come with being in NYC and you should be okay - just don't make it your expectation to get top tier groups in top tier banks.

You need to be the top of your graduating class/network to land the very limited number of BB IB positions that are offered to Baruch level schools. If you want to pursue working at a BB it is far more realistic to do so in a middle/back office capacity. Baruch does place a lot of candidates at the Big 4 though.

Idk about the difficulty transferring to NYU but the tuition difference is not worth to go there.

MFE @ Baruch is on the Ivy league level but to gain acceptance is another story. You pretty much need a perfect math score on the GRE.

You will find a lot of Baruch alums throughout Wall Street but its not a hotbed for recruiting and those prominent individuals are an older generation.

I appreciate your comment. But on thing I wonder, you're saying that baruch is not enough for IB( front office), and you mean just for bachelor or for master's degree too?

you're not getting an offer with your grasp of english. you better immerse yourself in american culture your first two years. an accent is fine, but your grammar/writing ability needs to be flawless.
