Big 4 HF Front-office IT trying for Research/Trading roles

Looking for some career advise on switching from Front-office IT to Trading/Research.

A bit of background.

I'm currently at a big 4 macro HF in a Front-office role in NYC. My job is not typical IT but more of data science oriented stuff and not doing any IT work per se. I graduated from an Ivy with a CS degree and this is my first job (2 years in). I'm looking to move to a more finance related position - Trading or Research Analyst.

I'd like to know what are my best options:

  1. Try transferring internally (looks tough as all Research Analysts have significant experience and come from a BB after doing their stint)

  2. Goto a BB as a Trader (?)

  3. Goto a BB as a Sellside Analyst (?)

Please help.
