Full Time Resume Review

I will graduate from a non-target to 50 Liberal Arts school in the Midwest in May 2011 with a degree in economics. I have completed internships in commercial insurance brokerage, public relations and private wealth management. I am interested in working on the market side of finance, weather it be in Asset Management or sales and trading. I'm also considering a career in commercial real estate.

All feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks

IMHO:

Just have one address where you want them to contact you.

Take out "head server" position and expand on insurance brokerage, it seems more interesting.

Your winter trip doesn't seem that necessary. Doesn't add much to your qualifications.

That's about it, other stuff is pretty good. Good luck with your search.

Taking a quick look:

  1. Revamp your format - check out the template here for help - http://www.bankonbanking.com/resume-revisions/

  2. remove the periods, your name should be above your addresses, your addresses should be on the same number of lines, you don't need 2 addresses, but it is fine provided you've got a visibly appealing header overall

  3. Use bullet points in your education section and you don't need to bold so many things in it.

  4. You have an asterisk with no explanation - if it is to just highlight the fact that you haven't graduated, you can remove it - Expected XXXX says it all

  5. You don't need an explanation of your honors program - mentioning it is fine

  6. What is your major GPA? If it is above a 3.5, then I would put that in with the cumulative to highlight a stronger GPA as well.

  7. Your honors should be in your education section

  8. All experience and activity bullet points should begin with past tense verbs

  9. Don't mix dates - follow the month year - month year format

  10. Your work experience bullet points need some help - you need to show how you accomplish your projects and for some of them, any results that occurred as a result of your work.

  11. Your head server experience should be moved down to activities, which can be retitled as "Leadership Experience"

  12. From your new "Leadership Experience" section, you can remove the winter trip and move that down to a new section titled "Skills and Activities" where you can include that trip, any other volunteer or general activities you do and any language or computer skills or professional training you have

  13. If you are not going to expand on your "Additional Experience" with at least 1 bullet point per experience, remove them.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. Thank you especially Bankonbanking for the thorough feedback. Below is a link to a revised copy of my resume. Bankonbank, I revamped my format as you suggested and used the template you posted a link to. MUCH improved format. For the most part, I followed all of your suggestions. I have not yet revised my work bullet points yet. It's difficult to be specific about what exactly I did. For my internships before private banking, it's especially difficult to quantify the results. I'll try to think of something that is more results oriented.

As far as the GPA goes, obviously a question I'm not looking forward to answering. My major GPA is not higher than my cumulative either. I'll look around for threads that address the "Why such a low GPA?" question.

I'm really interested in going into sales coverage for a desk. If you all can think of any way I could make my resume appealing to that area, please let me know.

Thanks again for all the help and please let me know what you think.
