GS Global Portfolio Solutions
I've tried searching through the forum for more information on Goldman's GPS group within the portfolio management group of GSAM, but couldn't find anything. I know that GSAM has a ton of different groups, which range from PWM stuff, to sales roles in Distribution, to a few internal Goldman-run hedge fund groups.
Any information on this group would be of incredible help, thanks!
goldman sachs global portfolio solutions
They are offering turnkey solutions for investors so you could be doing anything from putting together a portfolio where an investor gives you 100% of their money to allocate, or another where they want to give you 10% to get exposure to commodities and liquid alternatives as part of completing their portfolio.
I don't know what you'd actually be doing day to day, but my guess is portfolio optimization, backtesting strategies and perhaps some re-balancing of the products that they would put into the solution.
Probably get to learn some macro, strategic asset allocation, get exposure to all asset classes and probably get some not so typical client requests which could be interesting...

Anyone know anything about this group? Seems mostly like asset allocation?
Yes it's AA - they are offering turnkey solutions for investors so you could be doing anything from putting together a portfolio where an investor gives you 100% of their money to allocate, or another where they want to give you 10% to get exposure to commodities and liquid alternatives as part of completing their portfolio. This is right. It's GSAM's multi-asset investing group, so you work with sophisticated institutional clients on constructing their portfolios and managing risk. It's a great job for people with interest in those areas, but unfortunately nearly impossible to break into.
Thanks Saxxyman, what would you say the exit opps are like?
Tough to say. I would imagine you'd stay in AA with any number of other asset management firms that do something similar (and the trend for multi asset solutions are still growing). You could possibly do risk management as well depending on how much of that you do at this job. Not to say that this is 'bad' by any means, but if you're looking to do fundamental research and become the PM of a fund, this is not your gig. I have no idea about pay and how it looks to move up the ranks but it is GS...
Why would you want to leave
Why is everything about exit opps
What is the exit opp from KKR?
You have to ask? I thought everyone knew it was curing cancer! At least if you have prestige that's what you do after KKR.
I see your point, but I just don't want to get trapped into something I end up not liking.
