In London, the hours are pretty ok. Leave by 11 PM, barely any weekends. It was similar in Singapore too. And yes they do take summer interns. getting an offer is way easier than the IBD slugfest.
yes, GS takes PE interns at undergrad lvl. friend interning in HK with REPIA this summer he mentioned that GS 147 ppl for summer this year. I think the number is way off tangent as thats just too many analysts for any PE shop- but to answer your question
GS REPIA - PE shop? (Originally Posted: 02/15/2007)
I know there have been a couple posts on GS REPIA. As far as REPE is concerned, is this a good route to getting there? Or is it better just to get into a reputable real estate IB group with a BB, learn the valuation techniques, and move on after 2-3 years? From what I've gathered on this site, GS RE group gets big deals but overall is not at the top as opposed to MS RE.
I've read the description of GS's REPIA group at GS.com. Is this significantly different than what the big names (Blackstone, KKR, carlyle, apollo...etc) do, but on a smaller scale, and/or are the return rates lower in performance? I mean, basically the banks have their own funds that invest in real estate. So are they just not called PE shops since they're part of one giant bank?
I guess I'm more curious because they're recruiting sophomores too for summer analyst positions in GS REPIA group. Is this possibly because the workload is easier?
GS REPIA is real estate private equity, period. It's also one of the best. It is not "second tier" or anything like that.
I would imagine the sophomores they recruit are just really qualified, really lucky minority students, a la the sophomore analysts in IBD. But I'm not certain.

I am curious about this as well, if anyone has any information on this topic.
does the REPIA or just the PIA take summer interns on an undergrad level?
I have a former boss in it who says it's identical to IBD, which was ~40-70k last year, if I'm not mistaken.

you are so hot, oneshot.
Depends on location - acquisition work is done out of NY, management work is done out of Dallas.
