... I just wanna have some fun time in a big city like NYC or Tokyo, and socialize with cool people. i dont care abt exit opportunities or 80k bonus either.

Should i do sales becos traders/seniors like me better? It seems like a more fun choice, but less respected in this forum. .....

you answered your own question... if they like you, you'll have a better time and who cares if it's not as respected, you don't care about exit opps and pay right? Hot girls naturally go into sales it seems so you'll find other gal pals to socialize with...

this thread is worthless without pics.

but seriously, agree 100% with monkeyinasuit - if you're looking for a good time with decent pay, without an eye to exit opps or outsized bonuses, sales sounds like a great fit. and you can't really overstate the importance of fit...

I am an underclassman at a target and through a connection I was able to get a role helping a BB throughout the whole Boston Career Forum and I kind of saw what the original poster was talking about first hand. The heads of IBD, Equities, Fixed Income, etc for many banks' Japan divisions were there and certain females did receive more attention than others as they went through interviewing rounds at the different banks.

Go for it, I learned a lot about various front-office positions in banks chatting with the heads of the divisions - they are all great opportunities. Also, don't assume that it is only because you are hot - they do this for anyone who they think is a good candidate and shoehorn people in with a head-start in the interviewing process, both guys and girls.

Thx alot :) I was serious abt this question and really didnt mean to waste people's time. which BB you are talking abt?

you can put a black stipe over your eyes... it won't be thick. Also, if you have some pics in bikini, they will be welcome.

Hehe, i think the take away is that guys are all same. I was surprised when random guys dress in suits hit on me in NYC, cos i thought NYC people are always rushing and they dont talk to random people on street. lol, i didnt expect nyc as flirty as sf, but still, boys are boys. It's sad. people make way too much judgement on 1st impression, which make them too preoccupied by ethnicity and appearance.

No, I think the takeaway here is that people want to make their own conclusions - originally, your thread title was "If you were hot and..." - as such, the inquiring masses wanted to know if that was true, or you just have a mistaken self-image, presumably to give you better advice (hah, who am I kidding on that last point).

Tokyo is a fun place.

Plus there are plenty of businessmen sugar daddies over there looking to supplement their married love lifes with a bit of foreign love. You'll get rent paid 6 months in advance and a monthly allowance of 5-10k, pretty good deal no?

========================================= We are excited to formally extend to you an offer to join Bank of Ameria

tokyo's like a las vegas with much more than gambling. i like it more than nyc, cos it seems to be a place you can settle a bit. lol, girls need fun too. we just dont need the hassle of bottles and models though. we usually go to a bar, pick a guy, and take home. lol, im not trying to offend people. its just what it is.

Piper, that is absolutely gross! But I am having affair with married men in NYC :) (though I don't get paid and am not exotic..)

Going back to the original topic - if I were you, I would take it. Incidentally, is it guaranteed that you'll be offered a job if you visit Tokyo this winter?

One no one cares for your GPA/how many languages you speak/how big your tits are. Unless you plan on blowing clients to keep their business.

Two, who gives a shit what this forum thinks is prestigious or not, are you flippin serious? How did you land 20 interviews?

If you have no idea what sales is, why not call the MD/book runners ask them what kind of things you will be doing, try to find alumni in sales, get an overview of the work and see if you like it more.

Lastly, you mentioned you were on 20 interviews, but how many offers is the real question? Your asking should you do something, well what is the opportunity cost here?

^^reply the guy above.

Oh, boston career fair is the japanese-english bilingual career fair. ALL BBs came to recruit bilingual students. 20 interviews, i just stop by their booths, pass screening with juniors, then schedule interviews w/ senior people. Its mostly for tokyo offices, maybe hk and singapore, so language skill is a plus. i didnt get any offers but only further interviews coming. asian offices work differently.

adehbone:
So do you have a deadline to accept this offer? When will you know if you can get an IBD offer?

You should hold off on this one, trying to collect all the offers you can get, unless you really wan to do something. But if you like IBD more keep looking to see if you can land an offer to do that instead.

no, they asked me to visit in tokyo during winter. I just feel a bit lost cos i thought IBD is a much better choice. But i don think the bankers are as excited as sales people abt me joining them. the conversation with bankers didnt go as smooth either, but the ones w/ sales all went much longer than half an hour. is it just about fit? and if senior people like me more, does it mean that i may be able do a better job too?

IBD in Japan even at foreign banks is an extremely Japanese job. Equities and Fixed Income is much more international, english-speaking, and casual. This is just what was readily apparent from the Boston Career Forum in general and working/going to dinners with all the Junior and Senior people at the bank. Since you asked, UBS was the firm I was helping.

GoodBread:
Unfortunately, I'm not referring to your Japanese.

Hahaha

amande96:
^ lol, whatever you say, i think you were right.

What?

and please tell me where you attended college, because I have some friends that struggle with english class, yet they can put sentances together and spell correctly. Seeing as u pulled a 3.9 and were unable to do either of those, I think they would be a perfect fit there.

So, did title of this thread change? I thought someone mentioned "If you were a hot ..." was the original title. Now it's "If you were a girl and accidentally...". Hahaha you guys hated on her too much and "forced" her to change the title.

I don't get why there are so many threads on this topic. Just go to Tokyo, interview with them. If you like it, take it. What does being a girl has to do with anything?

I had an American born Japanese friend who is male that went to this Boston Career Event a couple of years ago. He was undergrad business major and got the similar amount of interviews. He had decent GPA and went to semi-target but wasn't amazing or even that into finance. He just wanted to go to Japan to work. Though he was very fluent in Japanese and lived there for part of middle-school. This Boston Career fair, to my knowledge is geared towards those with high degree of bilingual skills in English and Japanese, and less emphasis on banking experience. Go take it and have fun.

No idea. Probably. But the Boston Career Fair [geared towards those of Bilingual Japanese and English skills] is huge. My friend told me people from the West Coast, Southwest, etc. flew in just for it. He did mention there were a few Hong Kong and other Asian representative there. But I think 75-90% were for positions in Japan.

It really helped the odds. He was getting a lot of on spot first round interviews the day after the fair. He's in Japan, I think at BB (2nd tier) right now.

I dont know this thread suddenly got so many posts either. this is hilarious. The only reason i interviewed for sales was that i cant interview for IBD in Tokyo, language issue. And i made a story abt why i wanted sales, abt my past intern in tokyo, etc, and after telling the same story for 10 times, i started to believe that i want to do sales. thats so unexpected. did i even fool myself?lol.people always pick up on each other in this forum, becos their lives are sad, i suppose.

Our lives are really not sad at all. What IS sad is your ignorant post about you being "hot" and your inept english skills.

^ lol. i agree with you guys. ^^i never try to have a serious conversation abt finance w/ finance guys anyway. you guys already deal w/ finance 90+/week, how could u still take it seriously in ur free time with girls.

working in tokyo in general is awesome. its like a las vegas with more finance and little gambling. people start drinking at 6pm everyday and japanese treat you like royal in general. its not as well paid, but money's not my concern anyway.

this entire threat is. From amande's butchery of the english language, to the fact that she has no idea what sales is after 20 interviews...and never thought to ask til she hopped on WSO after the fact...not to mention there are no pics included making the entire discussion moot.

and is that a champagne bottle up there or a golden fish?
