Is it horrible to graduate in in the summer instead of spring?

Do companies care whether you graduate in spring or after the summer? Will they use this to weigh in your summer analyst candidacy?

What about the typical scenario where you need an extra semester to graduate. So you will graduate in December instead. Will that ruin your chances for summer internships since you are not exactly graduating Spring 2011 but Fall 2011.

How many credit will you be taking in the summer? Because if it's under a certain threshold you should still walk in May/June.

Why does it matter when you walk?? I graduated a semester late, and as long as you can drop your resume through the recruitment channel at your Uni - it shouldn't matter.

Not quite sure what you're asking, but if you're graduating in the Fall of 2011, you should do your SA stint during the summer of 2011, and you would start full time either with everyone else during the summer of 2012, or earlier if you and the bank want in the winter of 2012. Banks won't hold it against you if you're graduating during the Fall. If you're graduating during the summer, there might be a little problem since most programs start with training in July or August, so you'd probably have to talk with your bank to try to work something out.

Would it be possible to to intern this summer and the following summer as well? It is always great to have more exp under your belt anyway. The question is, will banks let.

You would not be eligible for a FT offer.

The HR said almost the same thing.. the only difference is that i would not be eligible for a SA, but the question is i have already completed the check. Maybe i shall ask her again...thank you all.

Good question...my gf is graduating this May (only took 3 years) from Columbia and has a reputable (not BB) IB SA spot. She missed FT recruiting because she did not realize it was so early and has been a little worried about getting FT in the fall. She doesnt mind taking a year off but obviously wants to secure something for at least the 2009 FT Analyst class.

Will she be able to use campus recruiting (depends on campus I guess...?) or at least be able to reach out to some of the large banks and still be recruited?

*Please dont say "why doesnt she come on here and ask" because she is extremely busy right now and I thought I would do here a favor.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Monkeymadness - if the firm she is working for know that she has graduated and is ready to commence a full-time role, depending on headcount considerations, she may be made a full-time offer to start immediately.

Another example, a friend of mine is interning at BlackRock this summer, with a view to travelling for a year afterwards and then returning to London to work in 2009 - when he interviewed for the intern position, they asked him what he would do if they made him a FT offer at the end of the internship, he said he would take it.

But I'm not sure how prevalent this practice is in the States though

Ask Dosk, he'll know :)

Looks like more on the IT side. Maybe consider supporting a risk management team (Java)... Do you know C++ in addition to C? Take any advanced stats? Did you build models in your financial analysis courses?

You studied finance but you\'ve never interned at a financial firm?

Not a fan of putting operating systems, productivity tools (MS office) or presentation skills.

Your objective statement is too wordy and it doesn\'t really list an objective. Rather you\'re describing your own personality/skills.

Why do you want to the gulf, Qatar? What industry? Energy? SWF? Other? Look into Asia too, aka Singapore, for finance although you would need BB experience or an American MBA to be competitive.
