MBA after PhD?

My friend (28, male, UK non-target) is graduating with his PhD in a science subject in Jan and he is very interested in IB. He has 2 years science job experience prior to his PhD and wants to do a MBA to switch his career path. He was asking around what kind of job he should get in order to fulfill the work experience requirements needed to get into a good MBA program. You guys think those 2 years in science jobs count?

Thoughts guys? What do you think is the best route for my friend to break into IB? He is kinda desperate so I thought it might be a good idea to ask for him here.

US-based and still in undergrad so maybe take this with a grain of salt. Maybe the science background could count if your friend is shooting for Healthcare IB? I know someone who got a HC IB role at a BB thanks to their pharma internship experiences (undergrad though). Not sure if that's a thing over there or if your friend is trying to go to the US. Conversely have also heard of someone who got bored of medical school and eventually decided to switch to finance and is now doing investments in a healthcare-focused fund so that's an idea as well. Seems like people with such advanced degrees usually go to consulting. Best of luck to your friend though
