And it doesn't really fit into any categories but it's a quiet movie that I found incredible and isn't spoken about enough: Columbus.

The Florida Project is one of my all-time faves and so underrated. Thank you for including it!

Would add Casino to rise and fall and Django to stylish movies as well. Also, imo Infinity War is actually one of the only good Marvel movies (way better than Endgame). One of the only ones I've seen where they weren't afraid to have the superheroes lose even though you knew they were going to undo it somehow later, action was really good since they got everything from huge battles like Wakanda to intense 1v1s like Iron Man v. Thanos, and Thanos was one of the best villains in recent memory. Sad that they reverted him to a basic Marvel baddie in Endgame.

If you want to watch a great kung fu movie, I highly recommend Kung Fu Hustle. The dialogue is basically a meme and the fight scenes are awesome. I don't watch movies more than once but this is the only movie I've watched like 4 times.

I had a bunch more I wanted to add, but wanted to finish a movie. I'll limit it to 20 in no specific order.

  1. Good Will Hunting
  2. Silence of the Lambs
  3. Darjeeling Limited
  4. Rushmore - Wes Anderson film
  5. the Handmaiden
  6. Rosemary's Baby - this movie is insane and impactful. It really changed the way I view thrillers and horror
  7. The Pianist
  8. Chinatown
  9. Schindler's List
  10. Pan's Labyrinth
  11. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  12. Being John Malkovich
  13. Gran Torino
  14. Million Dollar Baby
  15. In the Mood for Love
  16. Burning - Korean
  17. The Call - Korean
  18. Your Name - anime movie, beautiful animation and lots of references to Japanese folklore
  19. La Haine - one of my personal favorites, saw this when I was younger and helped me understand the perspective of others while I attended university
  20. Citizen Kane

I watched First Cow the other night and really liked it (on Showtime). It's pretty slow paced but an enjoyable watched. It's produced by A24 if anyone's familiar.

I also watched LA Confidential for the first time recently too and that was amazing (on Netflix).

No. You're watching a man's rise and fall before your eyes. You see how despite his wealth, fame, power, and sheer ambition, he is never able to find the happiness and freedom he had when he was a child. The movie is especially interesting to watch today because of Trump. It's almost uncanny how similar they are. I really believe that Trump watched the movie and decided that he wanted to live the same life.
