MSc Finance Profile Evaluation
coming from bocconi bachelor in international economics and finance
gpa 3.73/4, major in finance gpa 4/4 (top 5%)
Gmat 670 q49, v32 (Did not prepare the verbal very much)
work experience: internship in one of the largest insurance company in financial planning department in europe, school internship in a vc firm
Extra curricular: students association in IB, 2 summer schools: one in oxbridge and one in ivy league
How is my profile for (MFIN lse, MFA lbs, MFIN imperial, MIF hec, MIF essec)
Bump

My advise: retake the GMAT. Gpa looks good (should be ~29 right?) and work exp. is in line/slightly above average compared to other students from Bocconi. With a 700+ your profile would definitively be much more competitive imho
Do you think with 670 i have no chances for these schools? Because I am worried that if i retake the gmat it will be too late for 2021 intake...
The way I see it: why risk it? 670 doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get invited to the interviews (I know a girl that got into LBS with a 640) but bear in mind that for most of these schools 670 is below their average
Yeah, clear! Thank you for your answer!
Unlike what most people say - I found verbal to be the easiest to improve. My tip is to follow GMATninjas verbal guide on youtube for sentence correction. The errors will start popping up from the screen immediately.
For RC and CR, just read the passage - once - with a steady pace, and learn to pick up keywords and key sentences through practicing.
Perhaps most importantly, start enjoying the verbal part and see it for what it really is - a fundamental problem of logic presented in a verbal context. I improved from ~70 percentile to 96 percentile in less than two weeks.
Good luck! Agree with the above, you probably still have a good chance, but nothing to lose in retaking, other than a small amount of time and cash.
What do you think should be my target score for the gmat? And do you think I should also try to improve quant?
My personal belief is that Q49 is (more) than sufficient. difficult to say about target, but aiming at the median perhaps? 700/710
That would only require a small improvement in your verbal
Your profile is good enough for MSc.
Don't bother with applying to ESSEC unless you are french and want back-up for HEC, because then you might as well do MSc at Bocconi.
LBS should be walk in the park, Imperial as well, LSE MSc Finance 50/50, HEC you will get an interview then up to yourself.
The problem with Bocconi is that I am not sure if I will get into the MSc Finance taught in English as Bocconi counts only the gpa if you completed the bachelor in Bocconi. I would surely enter into Bocconi MSc finance taught in Italian (I am italian). However, having completed the bachelor in English, I believe it could be regarded as a red flag on my cv to attend a course taught in Italian. Do you think there is a big difference in placement among Finance and Finance in italian? Do you think that it would be strange, given my profile, to complete a msc finance in Italian after a bachelor in English? Thanks for your replies!
First of all it won’t be a red flag. Second of all what year cohort are you applying for? If 2021 DO NOT bother with GMAT as honestly you have to send off your applications as soon as possible. I guarantee by now for LSE 2021 intake, the majority of the class is already filled. Honestly your grades and work EXP are good enough to omit the gmat score in my personal opinion. It’s about getting your applications in as soon as possible with good references and a strong PS. Good luck!
I have already sent lbs mfa, imperial mfin. For lse i am taking the gmat the 21st of april. Lors and personal statement are already ready. One lor is from a professor (my thesis supervisor) with a phd in economics at lse. I hope this will add weight to my application. Anyway, do you think is it better to apply now with 670 or in 2 weeks with 700+?
Hi guys, i retook gmat and got 720 (Q49, V40). Do you think my profile is good enough for lse, lbs, hec even if it is late? Thanks for all your replies!
