Overthinking Background Check
Hey guys,
I really just am positing hoping to calm the nerves. I recently received a dream offer to become an Analyst at a BB in IB. Great references from within the firm, plus murdered the interviews and actually got a better position than what I applied for. Anyways, as I have seen with everyone else a little Background Check Stress.
I have no criminal record, fine credit, and didn't lie about my education. I accidentally left out the address I rented in college. I just put my home address and the place I'm living now. I never once changed my mailing, license, or that big stuff from my home address during college. This shouldn't be a big deal right? I understand the address stuff is to find criminal history in that state. Being that I rented in my college town Id assume criminal stuff will be searched from going to school in that state anyway.
Also like many others employment verifications. I really just quickly filled out the forum not thinking much of it. For some of my internships and work experiences from 3-4 years ago, I have no clue what the start/end dates were. So I just entered the beginning and end of the months. I'm also sure I have listed job titles differently than the official title. Nothing crazy like CEO vs analyst. Only one old sales job I started as an independent contractor, then halfway in the summer become an actual employee and took on other roles/titles. So I just combined that into a Sales and Service title. Nothing more than the little "fluff" to make everything read and look better. I'm super close with most of my old bosses. The majority besides that sales gig were small companies. Some were "unofficial" interns in the sense that I wasn't paid or had no w2, worked directly with Partners, and if I was paid I got venomed.
I really feel like I'm working myself up. I've read that HR and the hiring manager aren't looking to screw you over. Especially with an offer already out. Am I reading too much into the little things? I definitely feel like if there's an issue it is easily explainable/resolvable.
I'm tired of spending hours reading forums so thanks!
Spoke to the MD or boss today. He doesn't know anything about the process besides that he needs me to start studying asap for the 79 and 63. Thanks for any replies to settle my anxiety.
No issues at all
jesus christ
My god…
Had similar concerns but, Thank God, no issues, relax and enjoy your offer
The title thing is fine. no one cares. (source: my own background check...)
For the address thing, i have no idea, but i'd be SHOCKED if they even noticed (or cared).
How different were your job titles?
I called myself a “Corporate Finance Intern” when really I was just shadowing my friend’s dad at his company. Think they just called to make sure I worked there, if they even called at all.
They don’t care. I never put my college address down. As long as the titles are similar it won’t be flagged (investment banking analyst vs analyst - investment banking or check out associate vs cashier etc). Dates are fine if it’s still in the same month. The bigger issues are when you list a job and they can’t verify it or a job you don’t list pops up.
But if anything gets flagged, they will just ask for additional documentation, nothing to stress about (transcripts, offer letters, w2 etc)

You're screwed
Congrats on the offer but this is the nerdiest shit I've ever read
Reminds of the thread where someone said they had a 3.9 and it dropped to a 3.85. The horror!
