Rally In Tulsa, Oklahoma?

I think it is very unfortunate that a rally is being held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a state where the COVID problem is getting worse. Reports say that 20,000 people are going to be packed into the arena . From what I can tell, people do not seem to be wearing masks and they are probably going to be standing very close to each other. I totally get that we need to move on with our lives but this is bizarre. This event could lead to a catastrophe in Oklahoma. SMH

Oh well.

My attitude on this as well, it’s not like they aren’t aware of the global pandemic that has shut everything down.

Freedom is defined by "doing whatever you want to do as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's right to to what they want to do". Being dumb and getting other people sick is infringing on other people's freedom.

Slightly more extreme version, but still the same logic, would be that I should be able to murder a man in cold blood - "Cuz Freedom ya feel?"

Too many people have some extreme thoughts on freedom nowadays...

Controversial

No outrage given mass protests and rioting/looting that occurred two weeks ago in the hardest hit city in the United States- NYC.

I think the American people saw right through the pandemic scare now that the media is picking on Trump's rally and said nothing of the protesting/rioting.. You can't have double standards when it comes to allowing rioting and protesting for BLM and then say you can't have a rally. One or the other.

Difference is in most protests people were actually wearing masks. Vs this rally they won’t and Trump team they made them sign a disclaimer that they won’t sue him for getting infected. Plus as Trump said in last weeks WSJ interview

Mr. Trump said testing for Covid-19 was overrated and allowed for the possibility that some Americans wore facial coverings not as a preventive measure but as a way to signal disapproval of him.

But regardless, good luck to the mostly obese, older people going to the rally and screaming loudly in a closed, tight space. Look at the pics of pre-crowd haha

If you don’t see the difference between an outdoor march with people wearing masks and an indoor rally with people not wearing masks, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Well, NYC cases have been declining the past two weeks, even with the protests and people leaving their homes in general. I can't explain how that's possible, but everyone has been wearing masks from what I've seen.

They literally had people sign consent forms at this rally so they couldn't sue if they got the virus. Also, the president has clearly shown he's no fan of masks, so what do you expect the uneducated and obese people of Oklahoma going to his rally to do? There is definitely fair criticism here when the southern states have seen a rampant rise in cases.

It is already a complete clown show, as predicted. Apparently 6 members of the Trump campaign advance staff in Tulsa already tested positive for COVID. Their job before they were tested? Handing out masks.

Meanwhile the attendees include grown men in diapers, no one wearing masks, and Confederate flags and obesity as far as the eye can see. I’d make a “they aren’t sending their best,” joke, but I think this might actually be as good as someone could expect.

The cops just arrested someone, who had a ticket, because of the t-shirt she was wearing - so that’s nice too.

You are always so entertaining in how ridiculously left you are. It seems as though you can never produce a single thought that is not anti-trump- every post you can you will jump in and bash him and the administration. It's actually kind of amazing to me- and to everyone else that calls you out on it.

Hah, the idea that I’m “ridiculously left” is entertaining enough. One doesn’t have to be a socialist to see how comically terrible Trump is as a person and a president.

Likewise, I have plenty of thoughts that aren’t anti-Trump, and plenty of posts that have nothing to do with politics, but if Trump is going to be discussed I’m not about to hold back my opinion of him.

Luckily we live in a country that allows me to do just that, and as long as threads about Trump appear on WSO and I see them, you can bet I’ll be calling out his inadequacies.

If someone rigorously disagreeing with dear leader is that triggering, maybe politics isn’t for you.

Im not saying I'm a Trump supporter, also I know you post on other topics.

I suppose I am just pointing out that you are often very (extremely) insulting, calling a rally a "clown show", making fun of the attendees. Maybe you just aren't intellectually capable of criticizing someone on a higher level.. That's really sad and pathetic.

I’ve written many - arguably too many - sourced and fact-based critiques of the Trump administration, various stances Trump has taken over the years, and alt-right viewpoints in general. You’re more than welcome to dig through my post history to find them.

In the meantime, I’m not required to be eternally high minded when discussing people who attend Trump rallies, just like you’re not required to be high minded when you call me “sad and pathetic” while you critique my approach without any apparent sense or understanding of irony.

It doesn’t require intellectual capacity to point out that a grown man wearing a diaper is a jackass, or that not wearing a mask to a packed indoor rally while COVID rages is objectively stupid, or that Trump advance staffers testing positive for COVID at said event isn’t indicative of a “clown show.”

I call it like I see it. Traditionally, that’s a mentality valued by conservatives. If you want to discuss or debate specific ideas, be my guest, but if not, this isn’t The CRE Thread. Stay on topic.

At this point, you are a completely moron if you go to a trump rally.

@CRE might be a little zealous in his anti Trump comments but I do not think you need to be anti Trump to question what is going on in Tulsa. These people are risking their lives to show political support for the POTUS.

What do you like about Trump?

His polling numbers are atrocious and he just publicly embarrassed himself while attempting to launch his reelection campaign.

I would love to know the context of this photo. Either it’s brilliant satire or it’s blind ignorance.

This is the epitome of the political paradox...

Conservative Paradox: "It's my damn freedom to not wear masks and possibly get other people killed. But it's wrong to abort babies."

Liberal Paradox: "It's my damn freedom to abort as many babies as I want. But you can't buy guns cuz it kills people."

Classical Liberal: "It's my freedom to buy guns, but also my responsibility to use it safely so I don't infringe on other people's freedom (by getting others killed). I'm gonna wear masks because not wearing one jeopardizes people, which is infringing on other people's freedom. Abortion might be wrong because it could infringe on the freedom of unborn babies, but it's a grey area.

I am not speaking as a dem or repub, I am speaking as a human being. The rally could cause a major health crisis in Oklahoma. It is inevitable that some people are going to become infected and spread the virus to others. Why take the risk? It does not make any sense to me.

Also the “but what about” argument sucks. Debate the merits of the point at hand, don’t move the goalposts. It’s like debating the morality of killing 5 people by saying “what about Timothy McVeigh, he killed more then 5 people”

I’d feel bad for the non-COVID patients too. A local nurse, without a mask, was interviewed waiting in line for the rally.

I’m sure she’ll stay home from work for 2 weeks out of precaution...

Absolutely. Imagine those glorious ratings of the death toll ticking up! That’s so awesome. Every news channel would cover it.

So call it a "social justice rally", then it would fine.

BTW - When Sleepy Joe wins, and Dems win the Senate - good luck with 85% marginally tax bracket.....

Also: why are all the WSO social justice warriors seeking to work for such horrific, white, patriacharl, racist banks? Shouldn't you all be joing the Peace Corps?

Look I'm not a democrat (for eg, I'll vote Romney over Sanders hands down) but Trump isn't even a real conservative. He's essentially an egomaniacal clown running the most powerful country in the world. I don't get how intelligent republicans can even stand this guy/vote for him versus a milquetoast democrat like Biden, who's pretty moderate.

I want to make money and be financially secure/have good job prospects in the future but that doesn't mean I'm willing to fuck over other people just to for a lower tax bracket. I don't neccesarily agree with democrats' proposals but at this point I'm absolutely going for Biden vs Trump.

ltjenkins:

This is the dumbest thing I ever read today. Dumb liberals believe all conservatives are racists and fascists. Dumb conservatives believe all liberals are SJWs and socialists... Just STFU if you don't have anything particularly insightful to say.

Here are the facts:

1) BLM protestors are primarily young people and they WEAR MASKS. They are protesting OUTDOORS.

2) Trump rally goers are primarily old people and they DON'T WEAR MASKS. They are stuck INDOORS.

It's hardly a double standard when one group has a significantly higher probability of getting COVID and higher probability of dying from COVID. It's not a political matter, it's a public health matter (and common sense)

Luckily for humanity, it seems that not too many people actually showed up today.

I mean...if you ignore the empty floor space and entire upper row, I guess?

Estimates are that about 9k people are in attendance. Venue fits 19k. Trump campaign said 1,000,000 tickets were sold.

So no, not crowded.

Edit: Sorry. Fewer than 7,000 apparently. Hilarious.

2 digit percentage of the tickets were bought by the Trump campaign I bet LOL

There’s a rumor that thousands teenagers on TikTok and KPop Stars and fans alike all signed up for the free tickets to troll the campaign. Who knows if it’s true or not, but there are about 991,000 missing people.

He’s talked for almost 20 minutes about his ability to drink water and walk down ramps.

For reference, 40 million people are unemployed and almost 120,000 and counting are dead from a virus

He specifically said he slowed testing for the virus down. Just...why?

Odd that you’re getting MS for this

Eh, I am not personally offended but I would prefer people express their views instead of throwing MS. It can be difficult to have a conversation with a piece of MS. I think some people view it as dissing the POTUS. To some extent that view is valid in that I am a little annoyed that he is encouraging US citizens to risk their lives for his political benefit.

I don’t know if I should feel sad or scared that this guy is the president...

Yeah, it was a little disturbing to see a POTUS with that kind of speech. A speech assumes he has prepared for the rally. I am not so sure that he prepares much in advance of a rally.

Jesus Christ...his team is so fucking bad. I guess that's what happens when you're such an awful person to work for that everyone quits. Let's put aside the fact that I think they are a craven bunch of assholes who actively want to hurt people.

If they had someone half competent running this thing - they could have implemented social distancing, more people would've come and they could claim they filled the fucking arena under social distancing measures and had to turn people away. But they didn't do that because they don't think more than 1 step ahead, ever. Everything they fucking do is based on a wing and a prayer and how they think things look, not the end goal. This was the campaign kick off and it looks like a limp fucking dick. We shouldn't be surprised, right?

Terrible fucking people and just garbage at their jobs.

Gotta say, it’s refreshing to see most of WSO has woken up to the clown show that is the Trump administration. He drank a glass of water with one hand, the inbreds at the rally cheered for four more years, and his lackeys on social media are bragging about it, lol.

Thoroughly embarrassing if you’re still a Trump supporter, and doubly so if you think you have the intellectual acuity to work on Wall Street.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."

Yeah but at point I'd hope you'd wake up to the fact that Trump is fucking terrible for America and the republican party as a whole.

Personally, if rich people supported McCain or Romney I can completely understand why. But Trump? There's a lot more at stake here than just additional $$.

It was a lot different here three years ago. It seems like the crowd here is more evenly split these days.
