Salary ranges for entry level at a $40b Fund
Hi everyone,
I am currently into 2nd round of interviews for an entry level (out of undergrad) position at a Canadian fund with roughly $40B AUM.
My question is regarding the salary range that I should be asking for as I have no clue what they should be for a first-year portfolio management analyst.

In first round I mentioned around 40-50k and negotiable on my end.. but I am starting to think that might be a bit low and was wondering if my concerns should be brought up if asked in 2nd round

If so, what would be an appropriate salary?
Thanks for any insight.
Tell me more about the "portfolio management analyst" role for a 1st year out of ugrad. I think 40 is definitely low even if it is back office. I'd say 50-65 as a base, closer to the high end if it is indeed front office, and then some mention of a discretionary bonus. It may not be a ton but maybe another 5-20k and I think you've got the potential for a good gig.
Thanks for your post.
The PM Analyst role assists the portfolio manager. From what I've been told, the role consists of corresponding with consultants of institutional funds/assets, trading/brokerage, portfolio analysis/allocation etc, and monthly reporting. I believe it is indeed front office.
I've done an internship of the exact role at a top5 Cdn bank and the comp for the full-time position of that role was only around 45k.
I know it was kind of dumb for me to mention 40-50 but I didnt want to mention too high for them to make them feel it would be too expensive to hire me.
Hm, that would be surprsing that a top 5 bank would offer 45k for full-time. And, this is in the AM arm of an investment bank in Canada right? It sounds like a sort of trainee role based on your description I'd say my comp range of 50-60/65 still holds true...may not be in line for much of a bonus until you make Research Analyst or whatever the next level there is.
