It depends how much you're going to inflate your GPA. 3.17 to 3.2 or 3.26 to 3.3 is fine but 3.25 to 3.6 is a problem and you wouldn't want to go through recruiting and get an offer only then to be crushed by the fact that you can't pass a background check when they request your transcript or call your school for enrollment verification.

So they literally eliminate people who don't meet the minimum GPA? that's ridiculous. I graduated with a biology degree and my top grades were in business management courses (that had many finance topics). I need to explain to them that I am more than my GPA, and my recent experience says so.

How else do you suggest screening thousands of resumes ? with your gpa, you need to network and avoid Online applications. I am at a pretty small shop, and we get nearly 1,000 applications every time we post for an analyst role - I can only imagine how many apps JPM receives

Yeah i have a 3.0 rn at non-target but im a sophomore so it definitely sucks, but i am bringing it up. Cutoffs differ, ive heard anywhere from 3.5-3.7. I do recall reading in some cases you can put your business GPA and you could get the backing from your school for just those classes if you had a significant amount, but i am not 100% certain.

I would say the best course for you would be to get business related jobs/internships. I am not 100% versed on MBA application or how they accept kids. But your best bet would be to get good experience on your resume and go for the MBA clean slate. Even then you would have trouble with recruiting because recruiting starts before you complete your MBA so you would have to provide your undergrad GPA.

Don't lie. If you lie and somehow get selected, they could very easily remove you from the system once they learn what you've done. Additionally, could potentially blacklist you.

They have the cutoff for a reason, dont lie.

on-campus interviews. if they recruit at your school this fall you can submit an application through your university careers portal, which normally won't prohibit you from applying if your GPA is too low. Networking will definitely help.

At a place like JPM, their online portal for IB is largely used to collect demographic information and gather information for background checks on potential hires. It is rare that someone actually gets an interview solely applying online.

You should probably try networking...I mean. dude I understand you are worried, but there's almost no way that JPM is going to let your resume pass the online screening process. People with a 3.3, 3.4 are networking and they are worried that their GPA is not sufficient. It's very hard in your case.

Persistency is Key

Yeah, I'd second what a lot of people have said. Lying about your gpa isn't a good call. I have a 3.37 overall and listed it as a 3.4. Also, make sure to list your actual gpa, not your major gpa. Lastly, not being able to work at JPM isn't the end of the world. One option is to apply to a boutique for a year then leverage your IB experience by networking and having an associate push your resume to HR.

I would recommend applying somewhere else. There are plenty of other banks you can apply to whilst still maintaining integrity & character.

If you're dead set on JPM, would try finding a backdoor (via networking) to get your resume into their pile.

"A man can convince anyone he's somebody else, but never himself."

The bigger question is why do you think that if you were able to submit your resume that it would get past the screen? There are very few slots for schools that don't typically get recruited, and you have already graduated. Your entire profile is off for getting into IB pre-MBA. Getting a top MBA is your most obvious path to IB.

I could try to submit an application to Google to be their next CEO, but it doesn't mean that I am remotely qualified so why should I think I'd be considered?

To be frank, first if you're in Canada and looking to go to the NY office. You need to be at a target school (for the US not just Canada) so Ivey/Queen's McGill, or an absolutely exceptional candidate from one of the Canadian targets (long list). Since, JP doesn't come to your campus I'm going to go ahead and assume that you don't go to one of the top three.

In that case, with a 2.6 GPA, and from the responses above no great reason for having one. You need to re-adjust your expectations. You won't be going to an NY office, and you're likely going to have your resume go straight into a recycling bin on first pass at any of the Big 5/BBs/and EBs in Toronto.

My best advice would be to network extensively with the boutiques in Toronto, you should be looking at places like GMP/ Cormark/ Origin Merchant Partners/ M Partners, etc. You're still gonna have a long road ahead of you to get your foot in the door at any of those places, but you may get lucky and have a chance to really prove that you aren't who your GPA says you are.
