Stephens Inc. Interview
So I cold e-mailed Stepens Inc the other day with a resume and cover letter and got an e-mail requesting a 20 minute phone interview.
I went online to find out more about their analyst program and couldn't find much. I know they have offices all over the southeast but does anyone know if all the analysts start out at their headquarters in Little Rock?
If anyone is familiar with Stephens or ever been through the interviewing process, how is it?
16 analysts. All in LR. Phone interview then a superday. Applying as well
Thanks, do you know how technical the interview is? And when is the superday?
Honestly I would like to know as well.
Info session said be expected to explain what you do on a Saturday night and also financial statements. They didn't specify exactly what is in interview. One alumni analyst said he wished he majored in accounting based on what he does on a day to day basis.
I'm guessing standard fit for phone, split for superday. Remember it is a generalist program. Dont mention a product group or even a industry group because they dont exist for analysts.
Would love to hear from someone who went through it...
Which schools does Stephens actively recruit from?
they recruit from southern schools (think William and Mary, GA tech) there's also a good mix of the SEC schools. the interviews are mostly fit. out of the 8 interviews on superday, one associate threw out some technicals which were pretty simple. good piece of advice is work the room during the meet and greet with the analysts and associates on friday night, and know your limits if you're going to smack talk about SEC football.
I've got an upcoming phone interview. What should I expect... mostly fit?
Thanks
mostly fit. they just want to see how you interact over the phone. there are some people who have no idea how to have a conversation over the phone. i also suggest picking up some WSJ's and reading about deals just in case they ask if you know what's going on. good luck. if you want any detailed answers. pm me.
When I interviewed they had most people end up in LR, one or two in NY, and one or two in ATL. It is mostly a fit interview and the offices are really nice. They have cocktail hours and dinners which are essentially informal interviews during the superday weekend. If you're from the North you better be convincing when you say you're excited about working in the South and have a good story. Know your SEC football. One guy asked some typical technical questions such as how a writeoff or purchase of a depreciable asset would flow through the balance sheet. It was the most fun I had out of all my interviews and they fly some candidates in on a company plane.
Had my phone interview today and it was definitely strictly a behavioral interview. It was pretty much tell me about yourself and there were some questions about location preferences and how many hours you expect to work -- a real relaxed conversation.
They said there are trying to do phone or on-campus interviews with about 250 applicants and they will narrow that down and invite 35 to a superday.
Personally, the interview went real well, but I'm not sure I'm the ideal applicant. I graduated school in May from a top 10 public school with a 3.3 gpa with the best work experience being interning at a law firm for two semesters in the mergers and acquisitions practice group.
Best of luck everyone applying.
I've got a phone interview coming up. The HR lady said they are recruiting for analysts in most of their offices, the process just goes through Little Rock. They are also looking for Atlanta, Dallas, etc.
Good luck Shaniqua, They also said they will notify everyone if they made the superday before October 18th.
First round phone interview Thursday... any additional information which is not listed above is greatly appreciated.

Did you ever hear back?
Said they will let candidates know the week of the 18th regarding second round... interview went great.
I heard the same thing. I hope they let us know sooner.
Any updates?

Stephens Inc Analyst Program? (Originally Posted: 02/20/2014)
Does anyone have any information about the IB analyst program at Stephens (Deal exposure, culture, reputation, etc)? I have searched, but much of the information is a bit dated. Any information would be much appreciated!
It depends on what location. Arkansas has great deal exposure
Your deal exposure will probably be best in Little Rock / Atlanta. The firm is considered one of the most active in the middle market M&A space (alongside Stifel, Blair, Baid, etc.) and has recently added Boston and SF offices. That being said, it still has a distinct, Southern culture. Message me for more info if you need.
Bump
Culture is very traditional/southern from what I can tell after a SD there. From what I can gather Atlanta office has great deal exposure and revenue per banker is excellent.
