Stories about faking diversity?

I've seen 4 posts in the past week of people claiming to have faked diversity. Is this a common thing? Anyone have instances of someone getting caught or getting away with it? I've been tempted by it but never actually seriously considered it for obvious moral reasons. I just want to entertain the thought so would love to listen to some stories if you guys have any.

Edit: Please don't get into another affirmative-action, diversity recruiting, argument here. That's really not the point of this thread. We have other threads for that.

Lol 100% going to happen anyway

Funniest

I faked being LGBTQ and applied for all the programs, I was 100% straight before I applied to anything. I wanted to make sure I was convincingly gay, so I started watching RuPauls drag race and then lady boy porn, then gay porn. I was kind of turned on honestly, so I downloaded grindr just to see what my options were. Within twenty minutes, I was getting sucked off by a hot stud who lived in the same building as me. I figured it wasn’t gay to let a dude suck me off, a BJ is just a BJ, but then the next time we did it, we went further and the rest is history. I realized that being gay is a lot of fun, and I am no longer faking being bisexual. This post is 100% serious, and I would say to anyone reading this - life is short, experiment and try new things out ;)

In reality there are a ton of downsides to pretend to be LGBTQ I would assume. You basically have to live a lie once you join your bank and your friends will assuredly know you lied, etc. obviously it’s super easy to say “wow if I tel people I’m gay Ill get a BB offer ez”, but in reality it’s putting yourself in a weird and dishonest spot which I don’t think, in a relationship business you should strive to forge

Facts I can't control being born brown instead of black or Hispanic. I can't control having a penis instead of a vagina. It's not my fault I like girls and don't enjoy getting pounded in the ass by other dudes. Diversity programs are the biggest scam and try to create "equality" by punishing people for things they can't control.

I have heard some people with Spanish (European) background putting down Hispanic for race or Middle Easterners checking black.

Kinda hilarious.....if you are incentivized to check certain boxes why not take the free boost. Your seniors just want competent junior staff they don’t give a shit about having X% black analysts etc if they cant do the work.

I think most people who are technically hispanic but with extremely high % European origin do this. Top MBA programs have a fuckton of "diversity" candidates who are basically the sons and daughters of Latin American oligarchs.

I can tell you that as a full Mexican this is entirely accurate. The amount of 1/4 latino “diversity” applicants with blonde air and blue eyes, with a lack of any Spanish skills or connection to their ancestral culture is absurd.

I personally think we need to do away with the "Hispanic" label partly because of cases like this. Generalizing an extremely diverse group of people with a single label doesn't make sense. It's like having a "North American" category in Europe.

That awkward moment when it is socially acceptable to identify as another gender but not another race.  Another gem from the logically unsound left.

I also identify as vaccinated. I can be whatever I want and people have to believe what I think right? Otherwise, they are some sort of phobic. Reality doesn't matter. You can identify as whatever you want as long as you think it.

Girl in my high school came back to the seat next to me after winning hispanic national merit and winks ";) "hispanic"" while doing air quotes, worse GPA, worse SAT/ACT, worse PSAT than me. I was like damn congratulations on the free college. I got national merit commended which means you get a fucking sign to go in your front yard and nothing else. Also should mention I went to a very good high school in a nice suburb, so this was her ticket out of the ghetto by any means.

As someone who qualified for (and was part of) multiple diversity programs, they don’t give you shit.

Wouldn’t bother - not because of ethics or anything, but just bc it’s a waste of time and sitting through a million corporate presentations on how inclusive an organisation is incredibly boring (even if the subject matter is actually applicable to you).

Also, my firm has just introduced a diversity hiring program (which tbh I was surprised about previously thought I’d been a diversity hire lol) - but it just increased chance of getting an interview. They’re very clear that from that point onwards it doesn’t factor into any decision making.

I agree that the "benefits" of being considered diverse are overhyped

Sorry, but this is fake news...

At some point in the process you're most likely going to be interviewed by a senior person who doesn't really care about diversity so its not like its some kind of magical cheat code

Idk it’s my experience in going to these programs but also as one of the few ‘diverse’ analysts at my EB I’m actively involved in recruiting (interviewing candidates as well as running these boring events)

Even less so for being LGBTQ if you’re a white or Asian male. Biggest plus of being LGBTQ is just networking with other LGBTQ folks. Sure you might get accepted to diversity BS zoom events, but those are really for black, Hispanic, and women. White and Asian male gays are at the bottom of the totem pole.

maybe it gets you your foot in the door (and often does not), but if you’re LGBTQ, you are still getting grilled on the same technicals, have the same tough interview questions, and if you’re a non target gay, the spots usually go to target school gays. If you want to fake diversity, go ahead, these programs are fucking stupid, but I highly highly highly doubt being diversity as an LGBTQ white or Asian male will make up for having any deficiency at all (school, GPA, internships, ECs) in the rest of your application, and it’s really not worth it unless you actually are and I am starting to doubt if it’s worth it (I would’ve preferred to just keep everything in my personal life private) and I actually am.  And there’s hella homophobic people on Wall Street, I’m straight presenting for the most part and have heard a lot of homophobic comments about gay people, complaining about gay people, people calling other people faggots etc, and there are definitely people out there who WOULD NOT hire someone if they’re LGBTQ.

I think diversity recruiting is fucking stupid, but if it applies to you, do it, if it doesn’t, stay in your in lane.

This 🙌🙌🙌

All hella true - especially the part about everyone knowing your private life

You must be a non-target gay white guy who's mad that gay black guys get more preference in the diversity programs you applied to. Now you're trying to separate yourself and other white gays from the "black/Hispanic gays who are the real diversities" so you can try to cope that you got your job on merit rather than through a discriminatory system.

Not sure what your point is re homophobic people on wall street. There's homophobic people everywhere. There's also people on wall street who don't like Chinese, Cambodian, Vietnamese or any other number of minorities and would not hire someone from that ethnic group.

I applaud diversity programs as a white male. Doesn't take a genius to know how I'm advangaged being a white male in America.

Now, do diversity programs carry benefits for diverse crowds? Sure. But that's the point.

Instead of worrying about diversity programs, take advantage of being white and expanding your white network, which has significantly more IB professionals willing to talk to you than those who are not white.

Facts. Literally anyone who believes in white privilege is being textbook racist. It doesn't matter if it's in the guise of helping minorities and people of color. Treating blacks and hispanics like they're children who are incapable of doing anything without white people's help is utter nonsense. Can't believe there's people like this on Wall Street. I hope I never run into these woke lunatics.

Found the woke democrat. Even feminazis aren't gonna suck you off with this white privilege nonsense. You are not inherently advantaged over people because you're white you racist fuck. What about indian and chinese? We have it tougher than white people without the benefit of being the majority, especially in college admissions. I guess there's brown and yellow privilege too eh?

Why don’t you list some of the ways and help us out...

As a bi guy, the difference between acceptance for bi guys and bi girls is night and day. Any dude or girl would not have problem with women being bi, but a lot of girls and a few gays would never date anyone bi. That’s why we’re so invisible even though there’s more of us than you’d expect

I was a diversity candidate 30 years ago...

Interviewer:  What makes you a diverse candiate?

D.O.U.G.:  Well...I am a Copehagen-chewing, softball playing, blonde women's soccer player chasing, porn watching, red blooded, America loving, straight white male who enjoys bass fishing, Budweiser drinking, momma hugging, rock and roll listening kid...

Interviewer:  Let me check...hmmmmm...seems like we only have three of you enrolled.  Seems like a lot, but I like your hair...so you are in.

Namaste. D.O.U.G.

Tried once, not succesfully. It was for some irrelevant program for freshmans, not big deal anyway.

I am from Spain, so technically I qualify as Hispanic in the US. But I am so white, blonde, nearly looking like a Norwegian.

Manage to get an online interview. I knew what was going to happen, but I did not really care.

The face of the interviewer when she saw me, was priceless. The whole chat was incredibly akward, she clearly did not want to stay there.

At the end, she hit me with: You know this is a diversity program, right?

Still wondering why I did not get the spot. Funny anecdote though.

I know a kid who claimed he was Latino because his mom was from the Philippines and they had some Spanish influence. Another had a great grandfather born in Chile and counted that even though it was his only connection and that great grandfather had European parents.

So you’re telling me you went through the whole recruitment process stretched out over multiple months turning down 7 BB offers...so you turned down a place like Goldman, JPM, or MS...sorry this is cap.

Damn OP thank u for sharing. I'm a freshman rn and am going to take this advice. Seems like it's getting way harder and harder every day for Asian/White males and deserving ppl to get spots these days. All the spots look like they're just getting handed to women + rich diversity outta nowhere for no good reason.

If this is what the banks are gonna do, then I guess we gotta start looking out for ourselves...

Regardless of what 1 person says here, I would still be careful. One person's experience may not be the norm. He may have gotten lucky or he may be lying, or his experience may be the norm! Who knows. This is an unreliable dataset of 1 person. It is a risk and you have to weigh that risk carefully.

You’re at HYPW and you couldn’t land your offers without lying? You must feel good when people congratulate you on your offer and you know you were not smart enough to do it without cheating
