University of Illinois or University of Wisconsin
I'm a high school senior, and unfortunately got rejected from my top school (Notre Dame). Fortunately, I was blessed with acceptances to U of I and UW-Madison. I am instate for U of I (total cost ~$30k), which leaves UW at approximately $50k. I liked the UW atmosphere better, but not $20k better. I could probably swing the extra $20k for Wisconsin, but if there's no significant difference, I think U of I would be the better choice (especially if I decide to pursue a grad degree). U of I sounds like the right choice, correct?
U of I is super fun and honestly, if you are smart it's not that hard to get into the investment banking academy which essentially guarantees you an IB job. There are 4-5 kids that will end up in NYC but a lot of Chicago bulge bracket banks. Consulting recruiting is also great with MBB all coming down to campus now if you change your mind. Can't speak to Wisconsin.
Be a badger, you wont regret it.
Is the 20k difference annual or over 4 years? If it's annual, go to U of I. Speaking from experience, Madison is a great college town, but saving over $75k gives you a lot more financial freedom after you graduate.
I went to Illinois and loved it. Also loved saving that in-state tuition difference, it really helped me be able to stand on my own two feet much faster after graduating compared to many of my peers. Looking ahead, like if you were to apply to an MBA program or other grad degree, the two schools have pretty similar reputations. What will matter more is that you do well (high GPA) and be involved (strong on-campus leadership).
Illinois wipes Wisco across the floor in IB recruiting every year in Chi and NYC. Also Wisco does not have a banking program like the IBA at UIUC. Wisconsin is by far the superior school for being a sports fan though.
Thanks for all the responses. I am visiting U of I on Wednesday (already visited UW), and will likely make my decision after. I also applied to Michigan, but I'm not optimistic.
.
What do you want to study? If it's anything math/cs/engineering related, U of I is the clear choice. If not, I can't really speak much to it.

Yes, they are about the same. IMO, I think University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign would be a better option given that Chicago isn't too far away for networking opportunities.
@kingkang Yeah man that's what I am thinking too. I've yet to see either campus, but I am currently leaning towards UIUC. It seems like a good fit - I appreciate your response bro
Madison is just as close as U of I.
