Where are the smartest and most capable folks going in finance?

where are the smartest and most capable kids at your school going in finance? what are the most attractive positions for them?

do they go to top IBD groups or is there something out there that is more attractive?

I go to a semi current but the top seniors got FT offers at: Top BB , Top EB and good MM banks ,1 guy got into a quant shop and 1 chick got into MBB.

The most attractive positions depends a lot on the group and location, generally speaking NYC is the most attractive location and MBB & GS/MS/JPM IBD are the most attractive offers.

The group is unsure to me , idk if some are working for GS TMT or GS M&A etc so i can't answer that.

From what i understand top targets ( Ivy league schools) can feed some top students into prestigious PE firms such as KKR, Blackstone and Carlyle but this is a very small % and the hardest offer to get out of undergrad.

Just my impression, but it seems like top undergrads are going straight to the buy-side, whether it be the aforementioned top PE funds or top HF (Citadel, DE Shaw, P72). Especially since those are the kids that would likely move to the buy-side after 2 years of banking anyways, why not just go directly to the final destination.

Would others agree?
