Who's Your Favorite Comedian?

Hi monkeys. I am wondering who your favorite comedian is. Mine is Louis C.K. ... Louis favorite comedian is George Carlin, who passed away a few years ago. I thought of you monkeys, because, though he is hilarious George hates the business/finance world and has a Marxist touch to his comedy. I personally don't mind and understand where he's coming from. What do you think?

Any way, hope to find some new comedians to watch, so let me know who some of your favorite comedians are!

Chappelle, Rock, Seinfeld, Mooney, and Murphy are gold standard imo. Chappelle is always my go-to though.

"Hey, Babeh!....Thafuck you doin out here-- it's three o'clock in the mornin!"

What'd you think of the netflix special?

Jim Gaffigan

Hot pockets! lol

I agree - I feel like ever since Louis CK achieved mass notoriety (circa his third special), his act suffers as a result of his resounding success. It's hard to find relatable, every day problems to bitch about when you're a multimillionaire.

Too many to list man...top of my head: Cedric the Entertainer, Deray Davis, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Russell Peters, Gabriel Iglesias, ...

Kevin Hart would probably be the best in the game at the moment.

Comedic rock star right there

Nobody said Daniel Tosh?? Also anything from the radioshow "Bob and Tom," check out YouTube they always have comedians on the show. Kat Williams, eddy murphy, Bernie mac are great. Whose Line is it Anyways- the old US version with Drew Carey on YouTube.

26 Broadway where's your sense of humor?

Love Tom Segura. His Netflix specials are great. I've actually been listening his podcast lately, called "Your Mom's House Podcast". He records with his wife (who is also a stand-up comedian) and they have a great back-and-forth. Special guests occasionally on as well. Sometimes the humor is a little childish or disgusting but I usually find myself holding back the urge to completely bust out laughing at my desk, especially when Tom starts doing accents.

Aries Spears' impressions are hilarious. Highly recommend the African men routine.

Or Schwarzenegger and Stallone re-doing the Heat scene

Down the same alley check out SNL's Jay Pharahoe

Bill Burr is for sure the GOAT. I definitely prefer him over CK. A lesser known guy is Sebastian Maniscalco. Pretty funny dude.

Side Note: Kevin Hart is so fucking corny and unfunny. If someone offered me a free front row ticket for him, I would not go. Went to one of his shows last year, and did not laugh once. He's an absolute shit actor too, and will take any money grubbing bullshit script thrown his way. The only movie he has ever been in that was funny was Soul Plane, and that was due to the rest of cast, rather than Hart himself. It was also before he reached ridiculous levels of stardom for no good goddamn reason.

Louis CK in my opinion. It also depends on what kind of humor you like. It takes a lot for me to watch an hour long YouTube reel of a comedian but CK has done that to me. If you haven't heard dumb thoughts by him, please GO WATCH.

SO is this all-time or just recently.

If recently then it's obviously

Bill Burr, Bryan Regan (seriously youtube his videos), Patrice O'Neal(RIP), Dave Chappelle(just an all around great comedian)

Best Standup Ever - Eddie Izard, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Don Rickles, Gary Shandling(not sure he ever did standup)

Side note I used to think Amy Schumer was really funny...and then she got famous.

Honorable mentions- Greg Fitzsimmons, Mitch Hedberg, Bobby Lee, Doug Stanhope, Kevin Meaney, Ralph Machi, Jim Jeffries

Most of my favorites have been named here (Louis CK, Bill Burr, Chappelle etc.) so I won't rehash them too much, but one guy I haven't seen mentioned yet is John Mulaney. Never saw his show and heard it was terrible but he has some great stand-up bits.

Also never knew Spotify had comedy - I've been a big Pandora Comedy guy though. I'll have to check it out.

4 dozen comments and no mention of the old master, Richard Pryor?

Chris Rock, Chris Tucker's 90s routines, and George Carlin are all great, too.

Of those that are still performing with some reputation:

Top Tier for me right now: Louis CK, Bill Burr, Hannibal Buress, Tom Segura, Mike Birbiglia, Jim Jeffries, Brian Regan

Fallen off (gotten old): Kevin Hart, Jim Gaffigan, John Mulaney, Godfrey

Notable ones that I never really clicked with: Aziz Ansari, Russell Peters

Other than that I like listening to the old school comics and some of the up & coming ones, a lot of it is hit and miss and some of them still aren't well developed/crafted/experienced to churn out a full hour of mostly good bits (usually you'll get 1 or 2 bits that are gems with a bunch of rehashed or "still needs work" bits).

I'm so happy I read the p.s. part before responding because you didn't have Mitch on there!

My top comedians are Mitch, Tosh, Demetri Martin, and Zach Galifinakis. (In no particular order)

I went out to dinner with Zach and Seth Meyers when they were doing a comedy show at my undergrad school because I was on the group that brings entertainment to campus, and Zach is even more hilarious off stage than on stage, where as Seth, albeit was funny, just wasn't the same.

Jim Jeffries is my favorite at the moment. Aziz, Bill Burr, and Hannibal Buress are right up there as well.

In terms of old stuff Patrice O'neal, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Martin Lawrence.

Kevin Hart Jim Jeffries Dave Chapelle

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

Eddie Izzard - Look up "Do you have a flag?" for an idea of his style.

If you are looking at dry humor look for British comedians. I just woke up and cannot recall any names for some reason... apologies.

Literally every comedian worth listening to has been mentioned, but one - Jimmy Carr. If you like dry, English humor, he's excellent. Edginess on par with Patton Oswalt.

@freddyflintstone got the list right

"I also enjoy listening to some of the classics too:

  • Chris Rock
  • Richard Pryor
  • George Carlin
  • Eddie Murphy
  • Dave Chappelle"

.....Kevin Hart sucks

"thebrofessor" damn, beat me to it. was debating between Trump and Kim

hahah yeah Kim Jong Un cracks me up too - I mean whats with that haircut? Its been a good joke for years now, but he's running the joke a little long, no?

Joe Rogan but his standup isn't that funny. I just like him as a human...

Louis CK's show is great too, but pretty depressing at times in a truly comedic way.

i've really gotten into following comedians thanks to the JRE podcast, a lot of guys i like hearing them more in an interview setting rather than their stand up, rogan included. can't wait to live in LA for a bit so i can go to the comedy store and icehouse 3x a week

ps Louis CK's show "Louie" from a few years back is GREAT, watch it here: http://watchseries.do/series/louie/season/1/episode/1
