Who's Your Favorite Comedian?
Hi monkeys. I am wondering who your favorite comedian is. Mine is Louis C.K. ... Louis favorite comedian is George Carlin, who passed away a few years ago. I thought of you monkeys, because, though he is hilarious George hates the business/finance world and has a Marxist touch to his comedy. I personally don't mind and understand where he's coming from. What do you think?
Any way, hope to find some new comedians to watch, so let me know who some of your favorite comedians are!
Lisa Lampanelli (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMsVg2WHNQw&t</a">this one) and occassionally Jimmy Carr.
In no particular order
Jim Jeffries Robin Williams Brian Regan Eddie Izzard Eddie Murphy Patrice O'Neal
Chapelle and it's not even close
Love Dave Chapelle!
Chappelle, Rock, Seinfeld, Mooney, and Murphy are gold standard imo. Chappelle is always my go-to though.
"Hey, Babeh!....Thafuck you doin out here-- it's three o'clock in the mornin!"
What'd you think of the netflix special?
I loved both.
Yeah I loved them too. I feel like they touch on such deep societal issues in a hilarious way.
Facepalm...I completely forgot Chappelle
Demetri Martin is pretty funny. Probably my favorite at the moment.
no he isn't
Favorite I don't know..least favorite is Trevor Noah
Jim Jeffries and Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle is funny to if you can understand him
Paul Mooney
Everyone knows Tom Hanks is the last real one on earth because of Paul.
Chapelle, Tosh, Bill Burr, George Carlin, Bernie Mac
Warren Buffet or Alan Greenspan
Jim Gaffigan
Hot pockets! lol
*caliente pockets
Hillary Clinton
Richard Pryor.
Donald Trump - some of his shit is hilarious.
Excuse me

I have found that a quick 10 minutes of stand-up comedy on Spotify can completely change my grindability levels when the workload is pressing. You do not lose much productivity and it makes you laugh.
My personal top 3: 1) Louis C.K. 2) Bill Burr 3) Tom Segura
Who are your favorite stand up comedians?
Dave Chapelle.
I second your second choice
I like Jim Jefferies and Brian Regan
I've seen Louis & Bill Burr both live (Louis 2x) and I agree with your ranking.
I have to go against the grain and say I prefer Bill Burr over Louis CK. I've seen them both live at MSG and Burr had me in stitches while CK had me walking out early.
CK had you walking out early? lol wow
Interesting, I do think Bill Burr is hilarious. I love when he talks about population control.
I agree - I feel like ever since Louis CK achieved mass notoriety (circa his third special), his act suffers as a result of his resounding success. It's hard to find relatable, every day problems to bitch about when you're a multimillionaire.
If you're in to British humour, Jimmy Carr is a good shout. Definitely in my Top 3.
I honestly do not like standup. I get bored of watching a guy talk on stage after like 20 mins in
Some lesser known LA based comedians, easy to find at the Comedy Store / Improv / Laugh Factory: Greg Fitzsimmons Shane Mauss (touring now) Duncan Trussell Ari Shaffir Doug Stanhope Tony Hinchcliffe
ps did a thread on this awhile back: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/who-are-your-favorite-comedians
Too many to list man...top of my head: Cedric the Entertainer, Deray Davis, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Russell Peters, Gabriel Iglesias, ...
Seth Macfarlane is absolutely hilarious and I'm not talking about family guy or cleveland show. Kevin Hart would probably be the best in the game at the moment.
Comedic rock star right there
Joe
Seriously you guys gotta check this guy out he's so Fcking hilarious i Literally sht my pants, twice.
Nobody said Daniel Tosh?? Also anything from the radioshow "Bob and Tom," check out YouTube they always have comedians on the show. Kat Williams, eddy murphy, Bernie mac are great. Whose Line is it Anyways- the old US version with Drew Carey on YouTube.
I actually hate Tosh.
George Carlin
Came across Joe Rogan's stuff recently.. actually pretty funny too
You get the Nana for Rogan, I listen to his podcast...really good stuff. Also his Netflix Special was pretty darn good.
Jim Gaffigan is pretty hilarious, and probably the only comedian that could talk about food for an hour and completely maintain everyone's attention
The McRib joke at the gym gets me every time
Love Tom Segura. His Netflix specials are great. I've actually been listening his podcast lately, called "Your Mom's House Podcast". He records with his wife (who is also a stand-up comedian) and they have a great back-and-forth. Special guests occasionally on as well. Sometimes the humor is a little childish or disgusting but I usually find myself holding back the urge to completely bust out laughing at my desk, especially when Tom starts doing accents.
His first 48 bit is incredible, I am going to check out the podcast tonight
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, definitely have plenty of comedians to catch up on now
Aries Spears' impressions are hilarious. Highly recommend the African men routine.
Or Schwarzenegger and Stallone re-doing the Heat scene
Down the same alley check out SNL's Jay Pharahoe
Anthony Jeselnik
Forgot about this guy. He's really good stuff.
That guy is hilarious on the roasts. Jeff Ross is pretty good too and snoop dogg is spongebob squarepants funny. So stupid that it's funny.
I don't like listening to stand up at work. People assume I'm going crazy when I chuckle at my screen every 10 seconds.
Joey Diaz
Bill Burr is for sure the GOAT. I definitely prefer him over CK. A lesser known guy is Sebastian Maniscalco. Pretty funny dude.
Side Note: Kevin Hart is so fucking corny and unfunny. If someone offered me a free front row ticket for him, I would not go. Went to one of his shows last year, and did not laugh once. He's an absolute shit actor too, and will take any money grubbing bullshit script thrown his way. The only movie he has ever been in that was funny was Soul Plane, and that was due to the rest of cast, rather than Hart himself. It was also before he reached ridiculous levels of stardom for no good goddamn reason.
Jim Gaffigan. Sorry I'm a little late to this thread. I had a hot pocket for lunch.
Doug Stanhope or go fuck yourself.
Louis CK in my opinion. It also depends on what kind of humor you like. It takes a lot for me to watch an hour long YouTube reel of a comedian but CK has done that to me. If you haven't heard dumb thoughts by him, please GO WATCH.

SO is this all-time or just recently.
If recently then it's obviously
Bill Burr, Bryan Regan (seriously youtube his videos), Patrice O'Neal(RIP), Dave Chappelle(just an all around great comedian)
Best Standup Ever - Eddie Izard, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Don Rickles, Gary Shandling(not sure he ever did standup)
Side note I used to think Amy Schumer was really funny...and then she got famous.
Honorable mentions- Greg Fitzsimmons, Mitch Hedberg, Bobby Lee, Doug Stanhope, Kevin Meaney, Ralph Machi, Jim Jeffries
Dave Chappelle, Gabriel Iglesias, Russell Peters
Iglesias is good. George Lopez just says the same shit every time.
Most of my favorites have been named here (Louis CK, Bill Burr, Chappelle etc.) so I won't rehash them too much, but one guy I haven't seen mentioned yet is John Mulaney. Never saw his show and heard it was terrible but he has some great stand-up bits.
Also never knew Spotify had comedy - I've been a big Pandora Comedy guy though. I'll have to check it out.
David Cross
4 dozen comments and no mention of the old master, Richard Pryor?
Chris Rock, Chris Tucker's 90s routines, and George Carlin are all great, too.
Who are your favorite comedians? (Originally Posted: 03/16/2015)
I've been getting more into listening to good comedy lately. I listen to the Joe Rogan podcast a lot and he interviews a lot of comedians so usually i'll check out their stuff after if I thought they were funny.
Louis CK is an obvious one, but who do you guys like?
Here are some of the names i've started to follow recently: Ari Shaffir / Duncan Trussell (part of Rogan's Crew) Greg Fitzsimmons Bill Burr (been around for awhile but never listened to him)
p.s. Mitch Hedberg is the funniest person I ever saw live (twice, 2003 and 2004), Daniel Tosh i saw at Carolines in ~2008 and he absolutely killed it. Also a fan of Adam Carolla, Maher, Galifianakis, Patton Oswalt
I like Bill Burr.
Louis CK, Bill Burr, Aziz Ansari Russel Peters (hilarious the first few times but starts getting old after that)
Bill Maher also does stand up sometimes. His comedy is driven more by "sensibility" than just cheap laughter.
i heard a rumor that Aziz held focus groups to test out his comedy act. Not sure if that really matters but kinda goes against the spirit of stand up doesn't it?
Of those that are still performing with some reputation:
Top Tier for me right now: Louis CK, Bill Burr, Hannibal Buress, Tom Segura, Mike Birbiglia, Jim Jeffries, Brian Regan
Fallen off (gotten old): Kevin Hart, Jim Gaffigan, John Mulaney, Godfrey
Notable ones that I never really clicked with: Aziz Ansari, Russell Peters
Other than that I like listening to the old school comics and some of the up & coming ones, a lot of it is hit and miss and some of them still aren't well developed/crafted/experienced to churn out a full hour of mostly good bits (usually you'll get 1 or 2 bits that are gems with a bunch of rehashed or "still needs work" bits).
I used to love comedy central presents, sad they ended it.
zack galifinwhatever lewis black (classic) jim gaffigan demetri martin dave attell patton oswalt john heffron
also agree with mitch hedberg and bill burr
OH man forgot about Demetri Martin, he's great.
I particularly like Bill Burr and liked Patrice O'neal and Robin Williams.
Louis CK, Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle.
I'm so happy I read the p.s. part before responding because you didn't have Mitch on there!
My top comedians are Mitch, Tosh, Demetri Martin, and Zach Galifinakis. (In no particular order)
I went out to dinner with Zach and Seth Meyers when they were doing a comedy show at my undergrad school because I was on the group that brings entertainment to campus, and Zach is even more hilarious off stage than on stage, where as Seth, albeit was funny, just wasn't the same.
"I'm rich Bitch"-Dave Chapelle "I'm not Fat I'm Fluffy"-Gabriel Iglesias "Mas Puto"-George Lopez "Say it with your chest Lil ass N**a"- Kevin Hart
Anthony Jeselnik
I had never heard of him and then saw him live at the comedy store in January, he KILLED. he's now one of my favorites
John Mulaney, Lewis Black and Trevor Noah are some of my favorites (highly recommend you check them out OP!). I also enjoy listening to some of the classics too:
If you like dry comedy - check out Norm Macdonald's podcast. Funniest guy in the world in my opinion
i like some dry comedy as i'm pretty dry myeslf, any other names to recommend?
Jim Jeffries is my favorite at the moment. Aziz, Bill Burr, and Hannibal Buress are right up there as well.
In terms of old stuff Patrice O'neal, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, and Martin Lawrence.
Dane Cook is not too bad
In addition to many already listed here: Paul Mooney
Sebastian Maniscalco
Kevin Hart Jim Jeffries Dave Chapelle
Bill hicks
If you like Mitch Hedberg, I would suggest listening to Steven Wright. One of the most talented one-liners of all time, along with Mitch and Demetri Martin.
Richard Pryor. There are no others.
Eddie Izzard - Look up "Do you have a flag?" for an idea of his style.
If you are looking at dry humor look for British comedians. I just woke up and cannot recall any names for some reason... apologies.
Frankie Boyle Jim Jefferies
Been listening to Bill Burr recently. He's hilarious.
He doesn't come out with new material often... but if you haven't seen John Mulaney's "New in Town" I definitely recommend it.
Also forgot to mention earlier, but Mike Birbiglia is fantastic
Literally every comedian worth listening to has been mentioned, but one - Jimmy Carr. If you like dry, English humor, he's excellent. Edginess on par with Patton Oswalt.
Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Mike Birbiglia, Anthony Jeselnik (only the roasts), and Greg Giraldo was pretty good too.
Only the roasts? I thought Caligula was funny. In my opinion, he's one of the best one-liner comediens out there (not that there are many of them).
This guy is pretty funny
Mitch Hedberg is GOAT
Mitch Hedberg is GOAT
Jim Jeffries hands down
Bryan Callen
Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy (well, it's just Delirious), Jim Jeffries, Aziz Ansari.....probably missed a few others.
this thread is more confirmation than anything ever posted here that majority of you are whiter than white
LET'S IMBED SOME VIDEOS DEEP IN THIS BITCH
Aziz Ansari is truly awful. I couldn't make it through the Netflix special.
Agree with a lot of the names mentioned here. Louis CK, Anthony Jeselnik, Bill Burr, and John Mulaney are my favorite current acts.
Dave Chappelle
I like the deadpan comedians that use a lot of word play and surreal humor like.
Mitch Hedberg Steven Wright Demetri Martin
Chris D'Elia
Robin Williams Live on Broadway stand up. I guarantee your face will hurt from laughing so hard.
@freddyflintstone got the list right
"I also enjoy listening to some of the classics too:
.....Kevin Hart sucks
Kim Jong Un
truly explosive jokes
The shows are a blast!
damn, beat me to it. was debating between Trump and Kim
hahah yeah Kim Jong Un cracks me up too - I mean whats with that haircut? Its been a good joke for years now, but he's running the joke a little long, no?
Louis CK, lol no question
Took some time to really grow on me but he's really great.
John Mulaney is a new to me and I love his stuff.
Today i met a boy with no eyes...
LLOYD BLANKFEIN is my favorite comedian.
Joe Rogan but his standup isn't that funny. I just like him as a human...
Louis CK's show is great too, but pretty depressing at times in a truly comedic way.
Top 5 in no particular order: Jim Jefferies Bill Burr Tosh Tom Segura Louis CK
Best of the Rest: Jim Norton Chapelle Hannibal Burress Mark Normand Jim Gaffigan Doug Stanhope Nate Bargatze
Anthony Jeselnik
Sleeper pick - Jo Koy. Guy is hilarious, I've seen him live a couple of times and he always crushes it.
I like George Carlin, Russell Peters, and Dave Chappelle.
When I was a lot younger, I only knew George Carlin as the nice old guy who narrated Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. My whole world was turned on its head when I finally saw his stand-up and realized he was one of the most foul-mouthed, politically incorrect comics of his time.
Cool! I didn't know he narrated Thomas the Tank Engine, that's hilarious
Surprised nobody said Dane Cook - dude is hilarious
.
Steven Wright
i've really gotten into following comedians thanks to the JRE podcast, a lot of guys i like hearing them more in an interview setting rather than their stand up, rogan included. can't wait to live in LA for a bit so i can go to the comedy store and icehouse 3x a week
ps Louis CK's show "Louie" from a few years back is GREAT, watch it here: http://watchseries.do/series/louie/season/1/episode/1
TL DR did anyone mention Joey Diaz? OMG, funniest motherfucker. I
Steven Wright
Daniel Tosh
MillionDollarExtreme
Norm Macdonald
