Would you move to a different city on just a whim?

So guys, my cousin is considering moving to either Boston or NYC with out a job, or really knowing anyone who lives in either of those cities besides me. This got me thinking, I know I am a kind of guy who is more open to this kind of thing, but how do you monkeys feel about apes swinging from tree to tree just becuase.

Fully support it. I'm on my third city since graduating. It's not for everyone, but I think learning a new city and meeting new people keeps life interesting. If I could move every few years I'd keep doing it, but at some point I know I'm going to have choose a company and stick it out.

I'm currently a senior with no FT offer and I've considered doing this. As much as I'd like to just drop everything and move, I think it's a dumb idea unless you have enough money to afford living for a while without a job.

I also did this successfully. I left active duty on the west coast then moved to Chicago to look for a job without having any network or financial experience to speak of. After a year of building a network, interviewing, and getting lucky along the way, I recently accepted a job offer. I'd say having you there would be a huge help in getting him started.

Considering I know no one in the medical industry I'm not sure that would be a big help haha.

but I bet someone you know has some connection to the medical industry... It's all about getting that first contact.

Personally, I would love to do it. The excitement you feel moving to a new city, making new friends, experiencing new things is something to cherish. But its irresponsible to do so without a job or some kind of plan.

However, I think there is something to this. The balls you have to up and go and do this, I think potentially has positive ramifications throughout your life - whether it be a job you always desired but never applied for or that woman you wanted but didnt have the nuts to speak to. Courage is a powerful tool. Good luck to him.

As bad as you guys make out New York to be on here, I would still leave London in a heartbeat if I was offered the opportunity to move Stateside.

It has no benefits if you're unemployed without any marketable skill. Its like moving to LA to become an actor. Manhattan is pretty cut-throat and ridiculously expensive. Ill-advised.

I did this right out of College. At the time I figured I could afford to go three months without an income. Landed a job 3 weeks in, and also found it much easier to get interviews with an NYC address.

There is nothing like going to a new city, not knowing anybody, and having to build an entire social network with new people in a new surrounding. I say go for it.

Out of college with nothing to lose? Hell.Yes. There are not many times in your life you get to take those kinds of risks.

I've scampered to and fro between countries and most recently crossed the USA, its stressful as shit but totally worth it.
