Good Looks?

So how much do good looks help your career? I have three visible scars on my face and am only 5'9''...if I'm trying to make it to the top, will this have a negative impact my career whether it be ib, consulting, etc. This is a serious question.

Looks are important. Wall Street tends to rewards those with classic wasp good looks. But it is possible to succeeed without them, see a picture of Bruce Wasserstein (Jewish) or Boon Sim of Credit Suisse (Asian).

you're the joker from North Dakota State aren't you with the 3.98 gpa. Either you shoudln't be writing anything because you live in NDakota and get your info on ibanking from this board and the 'dealbook' from nyt, or you're just a liar.

in either case, shut up.

In all frankness, not that much. It's more about how well you can speak and how intelligent and commanding you can present yourself more than anything else.

How commanding you sound

How commanding you sound does help. I remember this one HLHZ guy, his tone of voice sounds like he could be a leader. He had this tone where you must do what he tells you to do.

"take as well as give"--> you've only taken and redigested information in light of your skewed understanding and then freely repackaged it to others.

Think of the implications of doing that, what if everyone did that, then I'd get the hell out of here because the board would simply become a regurgigation of other's 2nd had or 3rd had information.

"enjoy putting others down" --> look at your first post, you enjoyed putting down all the other people trying to help you. you even made a stupid statement about 'ivy league' kids. first impression sticks.

most of the comments i direct to you are well within the realm of reason, i don't diss people on this board. i nudge them to 'check themself'... so ludvig... check yourself before you break yourself.

I am amazed by how insecured

I am amazed by how insecured people are on this board. How are you going to become succesful if you don't even feel comfortable with your skin? Seriously dude, as long as you are not 5'5, who really gives a shit?

Just be yourself, shut up and work, approach everything with a positive energy you will make it someday...

??? Look, all the jobs

???

Look, all the jobs represented on this forum from IB to VC, all require you to have done well in college (top 10%). Look around your college; would you say that the people who are the top 10% of your school are good-looking (or more so than the average)? The bottom line is a large proportion will have been nerds (in HS or college or whatever); as long as you don't stand out in dress and are confident, the only thing you will be judged on in terms of success is your output and the impression you leave on others.

Ludvig, I don't know what to say. Firstly a lot of Wall Street isn't white. Secondly, please don't start a "can I get in" thread and then start giving advice about something that could seriously impact someone.

look at it this way there are many successful asians/indians. with a few exceptions many aren't over 6 foot. actually many aren't over 5'10". so theres always opportunity, but looks and i guess height may give good initial impressions when meeting clients, but once you start speaking all that stuff doesnt matter, its all about confidence and your skills.
