Portfolio up 50% since March 9th!!!....Getting B-school paid for?!

It's been a good couple of months monkeys! The only other post I've written was right before I came into some money. I ended up getting $25k in early March. I opened up an account with Interactive Brokers. Since March 9, I've realized just over $14k in gains (after some early losses, but remember, I'm new to this). :)

Also, I have an opportunity to get the rest of my Undergraduate, and Graduate school, paid for. Here's my question to all of the analysts, associates, and above...

To get graduate school (MBA) paid for, I need to be able to argue that an MBA is vital to the position I want. Obviously, MBA's don't hurt when looking for a position in PE, IB, CO, or the like, but it's not always necessary. Many analysts get promoted after a few years. Also, it seems as though many analysts don't make it to associate. I have two interviews over the next couple of weeks; the first one is this Wednesday. How can I make the MBA seem vital, or at least very important? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes, the post is disjointed. My personal portfolio and getting bschool paid for are two separate things--just in case anyone else has something to say about how disjointed it is. I'm sure you can find something else clever to say. Hang in there... It will come to you, eventually.

WTF? Who would pay for the rest of you UG and Grad School, and why? Also, what is the relevance of your portfolio performance to this situation? This is a strange post.

Yeah, okay..I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted that. To answer your question, I was shot while I was in Iraq in 2007. It was bad enough that I was discharged. I met some well-off people while I was in the hospital. I'm meeting with one of the families soon. They're willing to pay for grad-school if I can convince them an MBA is necessary for what I want to do. They also want to know what the prospects are for those jobs in the foreseeable future...i.e. they don't want to pay for a degree if the job outlook isn't good.

I'm confused. Why would they care about the job prospects of an MBA that they are donating to you?

Slap your parents for me next time you see them. Make sure you get them both with one single slap. Line them up and everything.

They want a bang for their buck.... The only reason they're considering it is because I did so well in the Marines. They're really wealthy, but I'm sure they want to know their money is going somewhere useful.

HarvardOrBust:

What's that have anything to do with your personal account??

More importantly, why are these "really wealthy" people being duped into paying for UG and grad school for someone who "ended up getting $25k in early March" and apparently has liquidity to just toss it all into volatile equities?

The $25k was an insurance payment from the military for the length of time I was in the hospital. The couple knows about the insurance payment. And yes, I put it all into equities. I have zero debt and my Roth is doing just fine. Why trash my methods of investing?

I'm going to try and translate for everyone here......

....nevermind I give up.

Good job. That's very clever. I'm happy you took the time to share your insights.

Look man, you can't post something like this and expect people to take you seriously. Here's basically how your post reads:

"Hey everyone, look at my awesome uncorroborated PA returns! Yeah... I'm pretty much a badass investor already..."

"On a completely unrelated note: why should I get an MBA (just need to know so that I can cash in on the free ride that I'm being offered)?"

It just comes off as disingenuous.

Obviously, with limited business experience, the MBA is going to give you the credibility you need to break into the industry. Shouldn't be hard to justify at all.

Real response here: I think the benefits of an MBA for you are clear. You probably haven't been working outside of the military for a long time, and you need an opportunity that will help you transition from the field to the office. You think the MBA will be able to teach you useful skills as well as provide a recruiting platform to get an office job. Your edge in getting into a good MBA program and a job past recruiting is your history in the marines where you did X, Y, Z . The money would be an important step to a good career.
