Blackrock - Strategic Product Management Analyst

I applied to Investments - Multi Asset and Fixed Income divisions (NY and SF) and application says it is still under review. However, today I received an invitation to interview for an analyst position with their strategic product management group - I assume this is back office. I read a bit about it online but the job description seem quite vague. If anyone has any insight on the group, position, or interview process I would love to gain more insight.

Also - better to work in a more front office position in a smaller firm or take position at prestigious firm and transfer to a more front office role?

BlackRock’s Strategic Product Management (SPM) has a mandate to drive organic revenue growth by enhancing product development and innovation and by bringing greater strategic discipline and insight to the products we offer our clients. SPM is tasked with ensuring that BlackRock has an industry-leading product set to support our clients’ needs and the firm’s growth aspirations in all market environments. SPM is a small and nimble team that partners closely with the various Investment Strategies Groups and Client Business Groups to achieve the firm’s goals and objectives.

SPM is responsible for delivering five core activities:

Provide strategic direction and focus themes for our product offerings Ensure that innovation remains a core competency and build an incubation capability Support the product management and approvals process Conduct regular and comprehensive product health reviews Understand product economics and rationalize our product offerings

Responsibilities:

The Strategic Product Analyst will be responsible for supporting the integral functions of the Strategic Product Management (SPM) group. The position offers a wealth of experience to interact with many different groups and organizations within the firm and with senior strategists within the team. The position will require interaction with senior investors, product strategists, client representatives and risk professionals. The ideal candidate has strong interest in market research, quantitative, and analytical skills combined with a passion for commercial and creative problem solving. Responsibilities may include:

Acquiring a deep knowledge of the BlackRock global product set Researching stages of a product’s growth and maturity and setting standards and objectives Designing and implementing a product priorities strategy, including critical gap analysis Bringing ideas and perspectives from outside the firm including conducting competitor research Building business cases around product ideas, in partnership with the businesses Managing the product approvals process Working with regions and businesses to reposition products for the purpose of enhancing commercial performance, or eliminate products, as appropriate

I wouldn't say it's back office. It's mostly a research-based role with emphasis on BlackRock's strategy as well as understanding BlackRock's comprehensive product range. You work closely with other client-facing teams to support their client needs in terms of product analysis.

Interview was mostly behavioural, with very easy technical questions, as well as 2 brain teasers.
