CFA® Booklist Level I?
Hello,
Anybody know where I can find the list of books you need to read for the CFA® Level 1 exam coming up in December?
I want to take it but don't have enough money to register. However, I'll have enough by the deadline.
Nevertheless I want to get started on it and will see if my local library has some books.
Thanks
That's not going to work out very well because the books that the curriculum is pulled from go way more in depth than what is actually covered on the exam. Learning outcome statements are what get tested on the exam: http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprogram/courseofstudy/Pages/study_sessio… , so while you know what's tested, you aren't really going to know what to skip or cover in the books until you get there. That said, I'll give you a list of what some of the stuff is sourced from but would not be surprised if you can't find some of them:
Fixed Income Analysis for the Chartered Financial Analyst Program - Frank J. Fabozzi Quantitative Methods for Investment Analysis - Richard A. DeFusco (not listing rest of authors) International Financial Statement Analysis - Thomas R. Robinson (not listing rest of authors)
Those three sections are 44% of the exam. Download this: http://www.cfapubs.org/toc/ccb/2010/2010/2 and give it a quick read now and read through it again later. Ethics is 15% of the exam and not as intuitive as the rest of the material. You need to know how the CFA views ethics.
Try to get the books or prep material from a third party provider as fast as you can. Do you know anyone taking or who took the exam? Can you talk to anyone in your local CFA society and explain your situation?
You really need to have the actual CFA books or one of the 3rd party notes (i.e. Schweser). If you can find someone who has done it before you could get away with using last years notes to begin with (I used the 2009 Schweser videos in 2010 and there were only minor differences)
