CFA® "candidate"
I'm currently interviewing at a couple of prestigious firms and when I applied, I had "CFA®Level I candidate" (lol) on my resume and that's the resume that landed me the interviews. The thing is, now that I got the results and didn't pass (barely), I don't know how I should go about talking about this during interviews. I don't want them to think I'm incompetent cause I didn't pass, I just had some things going on. How should I tackle the inevitable "So did you pass the CFA®" question..? I'm obviously not going to lie and say I did, but I want to know the best way to go about breaking the news
CFA L1 exam is easy af, easier than any test I took my senior year of college. Perhaps do some soul searching if you can’t pass that shit (assuming you’re a finance major/professional). Just lie and say your scores got held up because of an exam room cheating situation at a table near you, or that they held your scores because of a confusion with your graduation date. If I was interviewing somebody and I know they failed the CFA L1, I would be very skeptical of their candidacy. Do you consider your excuse strong enough that they would not think twice about you not passing the exam? Also, you might be able to say that you had some problems and were forced to “reschedule” the exam date because you can for L1.
Yeah exactly my thought, I don't want them to be skeptical about that which I completely understand. I'm actually an econ major, which is why I wanted to take the test in the first place. I think the rescheduling due to personal reasons might be my best way to go about it, after all I am taking it again in the summer.
Please don’t listen to him. Do NOT lie. Say you didn’t put in enough time but wanted to take the exam anyway to see which topics you were good at and strategize for next time. Many people in top banks don’t pass from the first time. It is not easy.
