Charles Schwab Investment Management: yay or nay?

I got a summer offer at CSIM in risk management. Is this a good route to go to get into PE or HF? How would you rank this firm?

Don't know anything about csim, know them as an online discount broker. If you want to do pe or hf risk management then it is probably good. If you don't want to do risk management this is not really going to help you land in PE or a HF. I work in ER, HFs for the most part don't hire undergrads they don't have the time to train them. Don't know much about Private Equity but doubt they are recruiting public equity risk managers.

Agree 100% this internship would be better than nothing or landscaping for the summer.

My point wasn't that CS doesn't have an Asset Management arm but that they are known mostly for being a discount broker. University of Phoenix has an MBA program, that doesn't mean you are likely to land in a hedge fund or PE. CSIM isn't the University of Phoenix of Asset Managers but they aren't highly thought of from what I can tell. They aren't Wellington or Capital Group.

I would focus on getting as close to a research internship as you can; if you have some other potential opportunities do not stop searching in light of this risk management offer if the ultimate goal is PE or HF or even ER before PE or HF, this role wont be a huge help.
