Corp Fin to Private Banking
Hello and I hope you are all staying safe. I am in a peculiar situation right now with hiring and would love to hear some input. I go to a target but not a top target (think UVA/UMich/ND) and summered at a PB at a top BB this summer (GS/MS/JP/BAML). Due to headcount restrictions, I did not receive a return despite my strong performance per my manager in the office I was in and am currently going through the internal placement program for opportunities in offices with headcount available. While this is happening, I was able to secure a corp fin rotation analyst role at a F50 company. Given the current job market, would I be able to rejoin PB as an analyst in a year or two when things are hopefully back to normal if I take the corp fin offer and hiring picks up again. I am fine with starting again as a 1st year analyst as I really enjoyed the work and wealth management as a whole or would I have to get my MBA to be able to make the switch to join a major BB in their PB. Alternatively, would it be wise to push my graduation back to December 2021 and try and intern again at the bank again next summer to secure an offer again?
My situation is pretty similar to yours, minus the summer internship. I'm recruiting for 3 BBs PB/PWM offices and I am currently in my second year working in Corporate Finance. I think your best bet is to take the CF job, but keep conversations going frequently with your old shop (and others if you can get connected with them). The biggest thing is staying on their minds as offices begin to open up and headcount can be expanded, so you'll be the first they think of when it comes to off-cycle hiring. Let me know if you have any other questions, can definitely dm to talk more
