Fixed Income Research or Valuations Internship?

I have received an offer from a large asset manager/lifeco to join their Fixed Income Research team and another offer from a mid-market firm to join their Valuations team. Which position would give me a better chance of exiting to AM/WM? Which position has the better exit ops, in general?

FI Research is a no brainer compared to Valuations. Ofc ultimately depends on your asset class preference.

The previous responses are correct. Fixed income research is a front office role. Valuation is not. Fixed income research is the research and selection of investments for a portfolio. Valuation means assigning prices to those investments for accounting purposes. If it were a stock portfolio, the research team would pick the stocks, and the valuation team would, at the end of the day, look up the price of those stocks at put them in a spreadsheet, and deal with any confusion about bad data. A member of the valuation team would be thrilled if someone on the research team knew his/her name.

OK this cleared up a lot of questions about valuations. Unrelated, but what is the typical 'Valuations' role at B4? Is it front or back office?
