Goldman Sachs Asset Management - Client Solutions Group (CSG) Superday / Superday preperation

Good evening - I recently was invited by GS to a superday as part of their CSG group - I had applied to a role and this is the field that matched my skillset. I have never been invited to a superday and all my past internship experience, while solid and at good institutions, was through my school's program, so the application process was not as complex as the traditional summer internship application process. I'm extremely nervous about the superday process, especially with it being in Asset Management and CSG. I believe I am interviewing for the institutional sales role within the team, but it was never specified in the email inviting me to the superday. If anyone has any advice, opinions, or knowledge - it would be greatly appreciated from a nervous recent graduate.

To crush your Goldman Sachs Asset Management - Client Solutions Group (CSG) Superday, here’s what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Understand the Role and Group:

    • If you're targeting an institutional sales role, focus on understanding the dynamics of client relationships, asset allocation strategies, and how GS differentiates itself in asset management. Research the CSG team’s focus areas and tailor your preparation accordingly.
  2. Behavioral and Fit Questions:

    • Superdays at GS often emphasize behavioral and situational questions. Be ready to discuss your strengths and weaknesses (S&W) through internships, projects, and clubs you’ve listed on your resume. Prepare concise, impactful stories that highlight your problem-solving skills, teamwork, and ability to handle challenges.
    • Expect questions like:
      • "Why do you want to work in Asset Management?"
      • "What excites you about working with institutional clients?"
      • "Tell me about a time you managed multiple priorities under pressure."
  3. Networking and Firm Knowledge:

    • If you’ve networked with GS employees, reference those conversations during your interviews to demonstrate your genuine interest and understanding of the firm’s culture. Highlight specific aspects of GS that resonate with you, such as their client-centric approach or unique program structures.
  4. Technical Knowledge:

    • While CSG roles may not be as technical as investment banking, you should still have a solid grasp of financial concepts. Know the basics of asset allocation, portfolio management, and market trends. Be prepared to discuss valuation methodologies at a high level if relevant to your resume.
  5. Situational Questions:

    • GS Superdays often include situational questions to assess your strategic thinking. Examples include:
      • "If a client presentation had a mistake, how would you handle it?"
      • "How would you prioritize tasks if overwhelmed with multiple deadlines?"
    • Practice structured responses using frameworks like STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
  6. Preparation Tips:

    • Resume Mastery: Know every detail on your resume inside out. Be ready to explain how your past experiences align with the role.
    • Mock Interviews: Practice answering behavioral and situational questions with a friend or mentor.
    • Rest and Presentation: Get a good night’s sleep before the Superday and dress in business professional attire. First impressions matter.
  7. Questions to Ask:

    • Always have thoughtful questions prepared for the interviewers. Examples:
      • "What qualities make someone successful in the CSG team?"
      • "How does GS differentiate itself in serving institutional clients?"
  8. Video Interview Tips (if applicable):

    • Ensure your webcam and microphone work perfectly.
    • Practice answering questions concisely in front of a camera.
    • Conduct the interview in a quiet, well-lit room with minimal distractions.

Remember, the goal of the Superday is to sell yourself as a smart, driven, and personable candidate who fits GS’s culture. Stay confident, and good luck!
