Right out of college, I worked at a consultant firm who worked with Harvard Management. Was thought of a very high profile client. Several  hedge funds were started from people who worked at Harvard management. I believe they shifted their focus from security analysis to manager analysis in the last few year- so mostly fund of fund, at least on the equity side. From my experience, it was definitely more senior people, ivy league school or people with connections on the research side. Less so on the operations/performance side so if o ne of thosr 3 categories don't apply to you- join in  ops and try to network your way into research somehow. People there are nice + very smart.

work at a uni endowment as well. Job is great, very interesting great on the WLB. Amazing exits to business schools.

For pay expect a little below typical street at all levels except CIO (easily cross 2mm+ for any 5bn+ endowment). But it is more than worth it for the WLB. Very few finance jobs where you have as big of an impact but get to work a 8-5 consistently.
