LSE MSc Acc & Fin for non EU/UK Career/PhD Accounting?

Greetings to you wonderful folks here at WSO.

I'm looking to pursue LSE's MSc in Accounting & Finance for a non EU/UK career, or a possible PhD in Accounting.

My background : MSc Economics, BEng Electrical from top Indian Tech university (IIT/BITS/NIT) GPA 7.2/10 (1st Division) Should Clear all 3 Levels of CFA by the time I graduate from LSE. Expected GMAT - 750+

In terms of career goals, I would love to work for a Long/Short Equity Fund, which invests using a global macro lens. Sort of like Passport Capital in San Francisco. However, given the bad times this industry is going through, I suspect getting a PhD makes a lot of sense, so, really I'm open to everything, be it IB/MC/AM/PE in the middle east, SE Asia.

The reason I'm keen on taking up LSE's MSc in Acc & Fin is because the LSE brand works worldwide. Also, Acc & Fin seems to be big in London, so the industry route remains open as well. I wanted to check the suitability of LSE's MSc Acc & Fin as preparation for a top PhD in Accounting. I ask this because this is the flagship program offered by the Department of Accounting at LSE, which has a reputation for an Academically rigourous curriculum.

Post the MSc, I'd love to go on to do a PhD in Accounting at Stanford/MIT/Wharton/LSE/LBS/Yale/UIUC/UMich/UCBerkeley/UCLA/Iowa/Kellogg/UNC.

Any thoughts or leads would be highly appreciated.

I don't intend to use an accounting PhD to get to a macro focused L/S HF. As I said, I have no particular goal as of now, since the kind of career opportunities I am seeking are not available in my home country. And given the global situation, it makes sense to have a back up (Accounting PhD). There are people doing research in economics, valuations, market efficiency and things like that in Accounting departments too, it isn't just about standards, reporting, etc.

There are quite a few Accounting PhDs who've served as heads of equity research at Barclays Global Investors (taking a sabbatical from their Professorship) and such places. I'm not sure what specific styles BGI employs, but I'd be more than happy to end up anywhere close to that.

Having said that, it would be great if you guys (and girls) could share the names of some Global Macro Focused L/S shops. I just know of Farallon and Passport.

Why not ask them?
