SIE vs. Series 63 - California

My employer recently asked me to acquire the Series 63 certification, but I read somewhere that the best way to go for it is doing the SIE then either 6 or 7. After this it was advised to go for the Series 63. I'm trying to figure out if I should take the 63 right away, or follow this suggestion I found online. This would be for the state of California.

Thanks!
