Any input? Pls guys, any input would be greatly appreciated. Basically I'm thinking about talking an economist job at Amazon, but want to have the option open to switch to finance later on (AM, research, hedge funds, BB front office). Would that switch be possible?

Not enough info here to give you any worthwhile advice. What are the duties of the Amazon job? "Forecasting," yes, but is it tweaking numbers in sales projections or advising the C-suite on global macro? Have you a Ph.D. or any publications? What do you eventually want to do in AM and why are you considering Amazon as a way station to that? All we can tell you right now is that you wouldn't be laughed out of the room if you go for decent jobs in AM while currently working as an F500 economist.

Thanks for your comment. I'm an economics PhD student and will be finishing my PhD next year. I don't have any publications as of now but I'll be submitting my papers soon and hope to have them published in finance journals. I don't want to reveal too many details, but at Amazon I'd be implementing a forecasting system. The work is not related to tweaking numbers in sales projections or advising the C-suite on global macro. In fact, the team I'd be working in is not at all macro or finance related, but I think I'd have good exposure to many parts of Amazon's business and learn a lot about the different divisions in Amazon as well as about business analytics. It would also be great to work with rich and unique data that a company like Amazon has. I'm also interested in quantitative researcher type roles in AM and hedge funds e.g. at places like BlackRock. I am asking if I could later on switch to that type of position from Amazon. I'd be interested in researching and proposing quantitative trading strategies. However, I also have an interest in the tech sector, applied econometrics and analytics, and the tech sector seems like a great place to be right now.

Mr. ErnstBlofeld, I was wondering if you had any further comments given the reply I posted to your earlier comment. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me your opinion.
