What's London LO comp like?

I might be making the move to London from another commonwealth country.

What's the comp like for a LO analyst?

I have 5 years experience (in my sixth year now) as a global equity analyst. I have my own coverage and make recommendations etc while also supporting the PM with their research.

I come from an absolutely unknown shop with 2 people managing a GBP 200million mandate.

Anybody able to give me any rough range (or ideally any hard data points) for LO London comp?

Thanks

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights into London long-only (LO) compensation for an experienced analyst:

  1. General Compensation Data Points:

    • Analyst 1 Compensation in London at a BB: £50k base with around 80% bonus, totaling approximately £90k.
    • Hedge Fund Analyst Compensation: For a distressed HF in London, first-year compensation is about £150,000/160,000 (including bonus).
  2. Specific Data Points for LO Analysts:

    • London Analysts Bonuses 2022: An example provided is A1 with a base of £65k and a bonus of £25k, totaling £90k all in.
    • Hedge Funds Compensation (London/EU): A first-year analyst at a distressed HF in London earns around £150,000/160,000 (including bonus).
  3. Additional Considerations:

    • Experience and Role: Given your 5 years of experience and the fact that you have your own coverage and make recommendations, you might expect compensation on the higher end of the spectrum.
    • Firm Size and Mandate: Coming from a smaller shop with a £200 million mandate might influence your initial offers, but your experience and role responsibilities should still command a competitive package.

While these data points provide a rough range, actual compensation can vary based on the specific firm, role, and market conditions. For a more precise figure, networking with professionals in the London market or consulting with a recruitment agency specializing in finance roles might be beneficial.

Extremely variable. The top US LOs can be very attractive at the 'Analyst' level (i.e. experienced investors who have sleeves / contribute to the analyst fund) - just go onto companies house and do the maths on UK subsidiary accounts for MFS / Wellington / TRP etc. Caveat this is for 'Analyst' seats - the Research Associate programmes are a lot less competitive (expect a discount on comp in exchange for 'learning experience').

A subscale / mid-sized UK asset manager is going to be a lot less attractive unless you are working on a v high performing fund.
