Getting MBB Internship Interviews
I'm a long time reader but a first time poster. Right now I am in between my sophmore and junior year at a top public business school (think HAAS, Ross, Mcintire). I have always been interested in consulting and am working through interview prep. I've have been working at Toyota over the summer in their project managment division as my Soph-Junior level internship, maintain a high GPA, and study three different majors at my school, with two outside of my business degree. With the prep I have been doing I think I can get through the actual interviews but my problem is how to secure an interview offer in the first place. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
its easy to get an interview compared to landing a job, focus on interview prep. (id guess 200 people from my school got interviews, maybe 3 landed internships). Write good resume, coverletter, be specific, result focused, thats it
Thats definitely true but my school only shortlists 24 candidates for first round interviews. While we have around 400 students overall, meaning the top 6% only get interviews. I guess my question is how would I differentiate myself from the other applicants? What are things recruiters look for during recruiting sessions?
.
which are the 2 majors out of your business degree? have you sought to seek out internships/stints with them to show a dedicated interest- that may help at showing diversity!
My other majors are International Studies and Economics. Economics may sound similar but at my school the econ classes are heavily focused on models and academic examples, while the business classes are more case centered. I'm not really sure if I have understand your second question because Imy concern is getting interviews for internship positions. However, I have been emailing alumni from my school at different consulting firms to network. Do you have any tips on anything more to do? Also how hard is it to get recruited to a different regional office than where your school is located?
