International Consulting - Opportunities?
What are opportunities for international office experience at MBB? I'd be interested in working in a Brazilian office. Obviously fluency of the language is required, but if one is hired as an associate, how do they go about trying to get placed in an international office of a major consulting firm?
when you get there, ask someone. generally you could have just read on their site that they have "ambassador programs" and sometimes long-term transfers.
Definitely feasible at least at BB, and you can do it through a project transfer or a >6mo experience transfer (ambassador).
A project transfer happens when another office asks for you because they need your specific skills (let's say you know a lot about energy and they have an energy project). In this case, you get very good benefits - think expat. Networking might be important to get something like that.
An experience transfer happens when you join another office for a set amount of time because it will help you grow. In this case, the benefits will be lower, and you might not get the office you want if it is in high demand (e.g., London). However, getting Brazil is very realistic because Brazil is growing and the offices there need help.
In my company, I know people who have spent time in every single continent using these types of transfers.

Does anyone know anything about any offices in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Barcelona, or Madrid? I'm pretty fluent in Spanish, but I'm wondering just how fluent one has to be. Is recruiting the same for these locations?

Hi. I'm applying for consulting in Singapore. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to write a cover letter to an overseas office? I only know one intern from Bain Singapore last year and it's hard for me to network across half the Earth (I'm in Canada). However, I was in Singapore for 5 years and would love to come back and work there. Is that a good enough reason to put in the cover letter? Any networking tip for overseas office would be really appreciated.

Yes, put that in your cover letter. Reach out to alumni from your school on LinkedIn who work at or have worked at the firms to which you're applying. Exchange a few smart emails, and then mention in your cover letter that you have been in touch with So and So and now realize that this office would be perfect.

Lately I've become fairly intrigued with the consulting industry. I'm interested in doing something internationally oriented as I like to travel and can speak Spanish and French in addition to English. Are these considered valuable assets to a consultant and what type of consulting or company would you suggest for someone like me?
I am not in the consulting industry, but I know the more language you know, the more opportunity you have to get international assignments.
What's ur education background like. Top consulting firm are McKinsey and BCG.

I go a top 25 school that is known for having tough grading standards and I have about a 3.0. Internship in the investment management industry as a rising junior and study abroad in the fall of junior year.

Hey, was wondering how the experience is abroad say in a city such as Paris or Madrid or Milano? And if it was any easier to get a position here?
I'd really be up for living in one of those cities for 2 years as a BA and then going for an MBA in the states or UK.
And does anyone have any info on applying to those offices? Is it just as simple as choosing a foreign office on the general application or does one really need to make an effort with the individual team? Oh, and finally are foreign offices normally willing to hire non-nationals?

Canada has all the major consulting firms but good luck most of the recruiting for FT has been conducted

Nothing happening in New Zealand, most staff out of Sydney. There may be an office or two, but the staffing pool is the same.
Consulting in Australia is the usual MBB with a few smaller regional players. BCG doesn't have a huge presence, but the other two are as in the rest of the world. The class sizes are smallish and very competitive. Active work is done mostly on the eastern seaboard, or on the west if you get some mining/engineering type gig. There is also a lot of travel in to SE Asia.
