Disney Corporate Strategy / Corporate Finance / Decision Support?

Hi all,

I know a lot has been said about the strength of Disney's corporate strategy group in terms of exit opportunities, business school placement, buyside, etc. However, I'm a little confused about the actual layout of the firm. So at my school they recruit for:

  • corporate finance
  • Decision Support
  • Parks and Resorts Global Development

Now I have a sense of what the corporate finance group does in terms of managing the company's capital structure and the funding of acquisitions, etc. But does anyone know what the difference between that and Decision Support, Parks and Resorts Global Development are? As someone who is interested in working in media long-term but is also weighing IB offers and wants to go to b-school one day, what are the relative differences in exit opportunities and work experience?

The reason why I ask: It seems that every couple years or so Disney's corporate structure goes through some reorganization or something because it seems that the titles either change pretty frequently or have a lot of overlap in responsibility. Is Disney Decision Support == Disney Corporate Strategy? Or is Disney Global Development = Disney Corporate Strategy? I'm not sure about what these jobs actually are in relation to each other, so I'd just like to gain a little more insight.

I appreciate the help - thank you!

Speaking after a couple years of experience in the industry: Global Development is a great team, but not similar exits as IB. It's typically seen as an exit for IB, but most of the traditional exists are Corp Strat, maybe Corp Dev, or other internal strategy roles at business units throughout the industry. Most people use it to get into top MBA -> some top strat job after as opposed to top strategy job directly. If you want the most similar exists to IB you'd have to do the Corporate Strategy and Business Development group, which is really different.

Thanks. It looks on LinkedIn like many of the Global Development members come from IB/MBB, and a top MBA. Looks like a legit team. I’m surprised that there aren’t as many exit opps, I mean these people seem extremely talented.

Sorry, not the best at knowing how to use this social board so probably looks like you have a couple replies. Simply put, it's not that the people aren't impressive, but that the nature of the job is more focused on Strategy in a very specific context (Parks, Experiences, and Products at Disney) that you don't really get the M&A / deal experience you need to do PE for example. Disney Corp Strat would be better if you want to get into PE and even then isn't a surefire thing.

This job opens one up to the general pantheon of Strategy / Corp Strat / Strategy & Operations / Strategy & Business Development jobs out there, especially in the Media & Ent / Hospitality industries. But it doesn't open you up to every job out there one would typically think of when thinking MBB / IB. If you want to do Media / Ent / Hospitality, great place to start out. Otherwise, you'll need to do an MBA from here (though this job fairly reasonably unlocks M7).

Feel free to PM if you have any questions, know this industry and role pretty well
