Equity/Credit Research Bonus Discussion

There's currently a bonus forum going around on the banking forum, would be great if we could get something similar going for research so we can all get a pulse on where everyone stands. Try to stick with the following format:

Title: Rank: Bank Size: Base/Bonus:

I might not be posting in the right place, but this is my initial contract out of MBA (currently finishing my second year)

Title: Senior Associate Rank: N/A Bank Size: MM Base/Bonus: $125k/50

Thanks for shedding some light on current MBA ER comp! I assume the 50 is from signing? And did they share any kind of range for yearly bonus for post MBA Senior Associates? Thanks!

Thanks for the thread, it would be helpful if more people could provide information on how many years of total experience and how many years of ER experience people have, just because what associate means could differ (is it associate in the sense like some BB banks where you get associate after 3 years as an analyst or just as an associate on a team).

Title: 2nd-year Associate (3 full years experience post college, this is for 2nd year in ER) Rank: TBD Bank Size: MM / Boutique Base/Bonus: $125 /TBD expecting $40-60k

Are you post-MBA or did you get promoted? 125k base for someone with as little ER experience as you have is generally unheard of unless you have a fair amount of prior professional experience. Most banks generally do the same base and subsequent bump progressions across all juniors regardless of division (IB/ER/S&T) 85/90/95. Not saying you're lying, just helpful to have a little more info (especially for when my comp discussions happen in the near future ha)

Based on his earlier comment of trying to clarify who is associate vs. analyst as a corporate title, I would assume he is a 2nd year associate (corporate title). $125k for a 2nd year associate is in-line, if not actually low from my understanding. It's always confusing for ER to know who is an analyst vs. associate in terms of corporate title given that the jargon for the industry is backwards in a sense.

Title: Moving from 2nd Year Senior associate to 3rd (~4-5 years experience total) Rank: Mid (Shit Sector) Bank Size: BB Base/Bonus: (Base moving from 140 to 150)/ $20

Title: 1st Year Senior associate --> 2nd year (4 years experience total, 4 years out of college) Rank: They give literally 0 insight into your ranking Bank Size: BB Base/Bonus: Base moving from 130 to 150/Bonus $60k

In terms of a ceiling for an “associate,” experienced associates can potentially make $200K or more all in after years (say 5+) of experience. These associates often carry the corporate title “Vice President” or higher. Some respondents at these levels may describe themselves as a “Senior Associate” to differentiate themselves from an “Associate” that has worked one or two years. It would be helpful if people included their corporate title (Analyst, Associate, VP) when posting...

Title: 1st year Vice President (7 full years experience post college, this is for 5th year in ER) Rank: No insight, but if I had to guess I am top bucket because I am going to be given coverage Bank Size: BB Base/Bonus: $180 / $50k
