Comp hasnt been communicated yet for us but that's an insane bonus. You must be at EB? BB's bonus is no where near that level for someone making 150k base.

The total comp number was believable, I was just surprised at the split between base/bonus. For reference I'm a 2nd year associate making close to that base but my bonus is much lower. So I was assuming someone with around that base salary would be near my level, rather than a VP.
Just to clarify, how many months in are you? I'm at 13 months making 125 base + 30 bonus at a MM
There are plenty of MD’s making 7 figures in research.
Not insanely hard for an MD in ER to crack 7 figures. If you’re a senior analyst, you’re likely already at 600-700k all-in. Just have to be good to get to 7 figures. Stars can crack mid single digits.
BB vs MM equity research comp.. how does it compare? Asking as an incoming intern. I’m curious at how MM and BB stack up in terms of comp. Do VPs and senior associates at MM banks have the same earnings potentials as at BB’s?
classic Propsects in this forum... How about you become a bit useful and provide your own salary on your offer letter and bonus band (if communicated) and then ask for something...

From the few data points I’ve come across I know that some MM starting base salaries are 10% less than some BB’s. I also am not sure but suspect that pay at the higher end BBs for research may be slightly lower than the lower end BBs (effectively lower end BBs trying to stop people taking a prestige upgrade) but this is from one data point.
Bonus wise however i would imagine the bb/MM gap gets bigger. Also, the more senior you get I would imagine both gaps get larger still, although I don’t know for sure.
MM research salaries tend to be right in line with BB’s while bonuses may be lower, based on what I’ve come across.. that being said a lot of MM research isn’t based in New York which has lower cost of living. But I don’t think youre necessarily right away MM salaries being lower as a whole. Lots of those places, especially ones with excellent research teams, pay street.

did he say he was an undergrad hire one year out of college? that's not what "associate 1" means at my shop.
Wait, so in this case, does it mean first year with the bank? Was it after MBA or undergrad if i may ask?
Does anyone have any numbers for what a first year BB associate (year 1 out of undergrad) would typically get for their bonus? I'm starting full-time this summer and have no clue what year end bonuses generally are for first years working for top ranked II teams.
Depends on your sector but generally 15-20k for 1st year BB is reasonable. The delta is pretty small between worse and best performers within your class/rank. it gets bigger as you get promoted from analyst to associate, to vp, etc.
What does the bonus numbers look as you move up? Do you have a range? How different do they get from say banking?

What's the point of this entire thread? ER bonuses are so sector, trading, and deal flow specific that anyone's answer gives you zero insight in your own bonus.
Disagree, have worked at multiple BBs in research (ignore my rank here) and bonuses are quite standardized as a % of base for juniors (the % does vary with your performance obviously, and the spread only gets really wide once you hit VP and above)
How stable is your sector? I've literally known BB associates who have received $0 bonus when their sector was beat down enough.
Going into being a 3rd Yr Associate (6Yrs total experience)
Base: $170k; Bonus: $25k
Second year comp was $150k base; $15k bonus.

Wait, how is it possible someone in ER making that much as bonus? Aren't these roles back office?
ER at the senior levels is one of the most client facing roles in finance. Lol. They spend 2/3 of their time speaking with clients. Disagree? Ask anyone in the industry.
if equity research is back-office, then its counterpart (buyside PM, analyst, company management) must be all back-office.

Was a senior associate on a guarantee of 125k plus 40k got another offer for VP 200k base and 50k bonus and got bumped to early promotion and comp above
