(ER or AM) + CFA® can = Portfolio Manager? or no?

Hey guys like my subject said I am new on this and was wondering which way is best to become a PM Asset Management, equity research or something else??

I feel like equity research seems interesting? Also what is the path like and time frame?

Thanks all!!!! I appreciate all the help I can get!!!!

"Equity research" typically refers to the sell side, so there are no PMs.

We probably need to start at the beginning to better answer your question: What does your ideal job function look like and why? From there we can help you out.

I have some intro articles listed below, if you are interested:

Thanks guys i am a noob, but I guess I am slightly more practical and love to see how the WSJ and other resources (gov't research, speaking with CEO's) effect the markets and anticipating market changes and such using more fundamental analysis seems to interest me more, but it seems that the ultimate goal for these type of careers is to be a PM maybe I am just confused for what a PM does and what the higher levels for ER does

Thanks a lot for the resources I will look into them!!!
