From FP&a to equity research
im currently a fp&a analyst at a f100 company and also a MSF graduate (at a semi-target). I’m trying to see how likely is it for me to break into equity research with years of experience because this is really something I been wanting to do all along. I also have passed cfa level 2.
Go network with your best stock idea write-up and 3 statement model attached. Then it's a number's game.
If you are not getting responses, understand what's not working and tweak your approach (maybe your write-up has flaws, your delivery is wordy, you are perceived to be a low-energy person, etc.)
Hi, this is very doable…as I did this. CFA helps open the door, but having a great answer for why research gets the offer and backing it up with basic modeling skills. Definitely use the IR network at your company as I’m sure you work closely with them being in FP&A. Good luck!!
