Susquehanna Buy-Side Equity Research

Hi everyone,

I’m fairly deep in the process with SIG’s Buy-Side Equity Research team for 2022 SA. It’s obviously a great firm but definitely more known for trading. My role would basically be to provide company level research and due diligence for the traders regarding valuation and my views on any upcoming events that could affect the stock. They also provide a lot of training around options and derivative strategies since they trade those a lot too. Does anyone have any insight into the quality of this role?

They are very big on developing junior talent and retaining them very long term, but what would potential exit opportunities look like? I’d most likely be in their NY office although the work is the same across both PA and NY.

Any and all help or info about SIG and this role would be incredibly helpful. I am really excited about the potential opportunity but there just isn’t much information out there about this. Thank you!

Buddy worked there a few years back (I am actually 5 years out). Absolutely solid experience. Its buyside so paid quite well and even better now I would imagine. However, he got worked hard easily hitting 70-90 hours regularly and more I would imagine in earnings season. Also based off what I know from ppl who work there now, the NY office is very very small like 30-40 ppl almost all of whom are traders so I would imagine that you would be in PA where the bulk of the ER sits.

Thank you! I don't know if the team is new but they definitely have a research group in NY. I've spoken to recruiters specifically about that office and it definitely is on the smaller side, but they've told me that they would likely place me with the NY team if I were to receive an offer given my interest in being in NY. Do you think that I would eventually be able to switch to a fundamental l/s equity fund from this team, or somewhere similar to a tiger cub style of fund? I'd imagine there is a high degree of self selection, but I am trying to get a sense of the type of funds or roles that I would likely be competitive for out of this role. Thank you again. I really appreciate it!

yeh it’s mostly looking at daily news updates and price trends/indicators and help supporting the trading team - not much valuation or modeling (according to some friends who are traders at SIG, the role is almost like a glorified news reporter)
