UK Suit + Shoes Recommendations

I'm starting my analyst programme later next month and I am looking to buy a new suit (preferably navy). Currently, I have 1 suit but will need at least 1 more. I'm looking at a budget under £300, unless there is significant benefit in going above that. I would appreciate any recommendations of any specific models and/or brands.

Additionally, my shoes from my summer have taken a beating so would also appreciate some recommendations on a pair of office shoes under the £100/150 mark, preferably on the comfortable side if possible as I have never found the shoes I have had from Asos, Next e.t.c. comfortable for me.

Thank you!

Don't buy 100 gbp shoes. They'll wear out quickly and then you need to buy another pair in a year. And again. And again.

Go to Crockett and Jones or Barket or similar and spend ~300 or so on a good pair of shoes that will last you a long time.

Suit I would go for CT. I don't like Moss because of their blended material, they don't have a lot of 100% wool suits. All of CT's are.

Thanks for the rec, sorry to sounds clueless but I’m looking at Barket and specifically a pair of their loafers- are these acceptable/ commonly worn in the office?

Sure. No one really cares what you wear. Personally a pair of Oxfords look nicer with suits though.

Suit supply for navy suits - most of my analyst class got their suits here. CT is also a good shout.

For suits I would recommend loake. If you have the money then get two pairs of shoes and rotate them each day. It'll make them last a lot longer.

Second for CT. They do great suits and shirts.

Would also recommend Hawes & Curtis. Their Italian 1951 (I think that’s what it’s called) range is really nice.

Both also sell shoes, which in my experience have been durable enough so it’s up to you

I can also vouch for CT’s suits and shoes, I’ve got a navy suit and a pair of black oxfords from there, the shoes are actually pretty good for its price point (~£135 I think), had them for nearly 2 years and there’s no splits or significant damage.

Would also recommend Russell & Bromley for more premium oxfords, if it’s within OP’s budget. Note: people with wide feet may find oxfords or monk straps from R&B a bit uncomfortable as they’re made quite narrowly in terms of width.

Their oxfords selection should be fairly accommodating for wide feet, I was referring to the monk straps I’ve got (Birch) which I had to 1.5 sizes lower for.

The oxfords which are accommodating for wide feet, assuming it’s true to size are Boris (they run 1/2 a size bigger than normal, might have to go smaller than usual), Cumulus, and Walbrook (Cumulus and Walbrook are true to size). Their loafer collection is decent imo too. Crockett and Jones is also good quality too, agree with anon comment but they are expensive (if you’re restricted by budget).

For your sort of suit budget, I'd recommend Marks & Spencer - they have a wide selection of fits and colours, and are decent quality

If you can afford to, get them tailored after buying - they'll last you a good few years if needs be

For shoes, check out Russell & Bromley - a lot of their collection is made in Italy with decent materials

R&B can be a little more expensive, but the shoes last and you'll get your money's worth in the medium term
